All appreciated.

Pixelmator isn't free but it's very good and pretty cheap.

Try this one out Apple - Downloads - Cards & Puzzle - Classic Solitaire

Haven't heard any reviews from any friends. Maybe that is because no one plays solitaire :P

Edit: Boo, the download direct from Apple is only a 14 day trial.

Bankyanks - are you looking for Corel Painter? It's pretty spendy - but they do have Painter Essentials for Mac for about $50. If you don't already have a tablet the Wacom Bamboo Pen is pretty cheap (at least in the US) and comes with Painter Essentials as a pack-in.

If you just need natural media software - ArtRage has a free version and affordable pay versions with blends, fills and the like though I'm not sure about any kind of vector support.

I'm not sure what you can do with the brushes in Inkscape but it is pretty mature and feature rich vector illustration package.
