I'm Getting Married!! Any Advice?
My boyfriend proposed to me last week and now I've started the planning process. It seems quite daunting and I'll take any advice or suggestions I can get. I'm completely lost on the little things like favors, the music, what to ask of my bridesmaids and everything else I haven't thought of. Any advice?
BTW, here's the ring. He did good. Photo 4.jpg |

Small guest list: The per head count gets you.
Prioritize: What's important to you? Photography? Dress? Honeymoon? Spend your money there, DIY or cheap out on the rest. (I would suggest putting the bulk of it towards photography--the day is such a blur, you'll want the memories documented) Hire a coordinator for the big day: Your wedding day should be about your prep, not getting the whole show rolling. Consider eloping: I did the wedding thing, God forbid I have need to, but I would never ever ever ever do it again. It's so damn stressful and expensive for it to just be a day. |

Congrats! You look really happy in your pic and throughout the process just remember what the goal is - getting married to the love of your life and celebrating with your friends and family. You don't want to start the marriage with a debt that will take years to pay off so don't go crazy on things that might seem important on their own but in the scheme of things might not be noticed as much on the day (the little bonbaneries (sic), 3 piece classical group with harps made of gold, fancy chair covers, etc...).
If you've been living together for a while and have accumulated most of the essentials already (bedding, kitcheny stuff, towels, countless picture frames and the such) consider having a wishing well for you guests to put money into. That way you don't double or triple up on stuff you already have and can put it towards something you really need/want; honeymoon, deposit for a house, a nice holiday or use it to pay off the wedding ![]() Best of luck and remember to relax and enjoy the day - its over too quickly! |

Congrats!!!!!
I like looking at this site to get ideas for my future (fictional) wedding Southern Weddings - Southern Weddings Magazine The only real saving $ tips I have If you get married in a church, you can save money on the decorations by getting married around Christmas. The church will already be decorated for the holiday so you won't have to break the bank with flowers. Also, if you make your center pieces the same as your bridesmaids' bouquets you can recycle them. After the ceremony just place the bridesmaids' bouquets in the vase/holder on some tables for the reception. Also guests don't like having a huge center piece in the middle of the table blocking their view of the guests across the table, so make them low or alternate between hoisted and low ones. Candles are cheaper than flowers and can set a romantic mood. There are really cool candle boxes that you can put candles into and they reflect and make funky table decorations. I don't know how practical this is but you can make a website for the wedding. There are some where you can add suggestions of activities for your guests to do in the city where the wedding will take place. Some even allow guests to RSVP online (don't know if that will work for 90 year old grandparents). You can make a free site here: Wedding Dresses - Wedding Cakes - Wedding Planning - Unique Wedding Ideas - By TheKnot.com Hope some of this helps!!! |

I'm not married but I would never want the stress of planning a wedding. Besides, most people don't want to go to your wedding. It should be about you and your sweetie. Spend the money on making it special for you two and not on making sure Aunt Susie gets her surf and turf. CONGRATS and good luck! |
