They're pretty good off-road, but don't count on it holding up when it starts raining really hard. Oh and try to avoid dropping it too much in dust and sand.

Seriously: The iMac is probably Apple's most reliable computer. I've never heard of any issues with any intel iMacs (and we have about 20 at work).

My work (original, white 24" Intel) iMac used be be shipped all over for trade shows. For some reason a few months ago the fan controller quit ramping up the speed and the graphics would freeze, making the system unusable. I installed an application which lets me set the fans' speed myself. After jacking them up I haven't had a single problem. I'm transcoding a DVD right now, along with doing my usual work and it's just fine.
We have couple of the newed, silver iMacs here too and they're great.

We've had one of these for 2 years, (Intel iMac, 1st Gen)

One of these for 4 years, (G4, 1st Gen)

and I still have the first iMac up and running, since 1998

So, yeah, I'd vouch for them

I've had mine for about a year now and no issues whatsoever, but check out the apple discussions link and read up on known issues, that way if something comes up you won't be caught off-guard.

mmhm, strong enough to where I have already decided it is fact and will be saving up to buy one after Christmas (doubt I could ask for it as a gift since my grandma bought me the macbook I have now a bit over 2 years ago (I will have had it 2 1/2 years when I plan to get my new one)

I am having trouble deciding though, I would like to upgrade to a macbook pro but love my 13" and don't know how I feel about 15" (definitely not 17", that is huge)

I'll just have to go see how I like them at the Apple store when they are released :/

problem is, I don't get school money (no job) until late September, and that money is going to be needed for a few other things I need before a laptop, and the one I use now is good enough to last me a few more months. Unless something serious happens to my lappy to where I am left lappy-less, I am ok with waiting until early 2009. No rush for me (even though I am still a Tiger and cannot play spore )
