iPhone Screen Help
My husband dropped his iPhone and the screen cracked. He ordered the replacement screen and digitizer and tried to replace it himself.
Unfortunately, now the touch screen is a screwy, and he can't use any of the bottom row buttons. (The rest of the phone works fine) I just called the company he ordered from, and realized that we were sent a 3G replacement and not the 3GS, which is what his phone is. Which leads me to my question, that I'm hoping someone can help me with: Is there really a difference between the replacement parts for the 3G and 3GS in this case? Could that be what the issue is, or is it most likely something greater? I'm willing to suck it up and make a genius bar appointment to get it fixed, but I don't want to have to drop the money if the new replacement piece would fix the problem. (Plus it's jailbroken and there are a ton of apps that aren't "free" any more, if you get what I'm saying) On the other hand, I don't want him to have to wait a week for this new replacement to ship, only to find out that we've wasted that time and we need to go to Apple any way, ya know? So any help would be totally greatly appreciated! What would you do?

Where'd you order the replacment screen from?
According to ifixit.com the front display kits are in fact different despite the fact that they appear to be identical visually. I trust ifixit for stuff like this. Last edited by Grapist; 04-15-2010 at 01:17 PM. |

There shouldn't be any difference in the screen replacement part.
That being said the tolerances on these devices make servicing them a pain and paying the $200 to have apple do it isn't so bad |
