IPOD HELP!?
Got the latest KATG and unhooked it and picked up my Ipod classic and it had a red X on it and said to go to apple.com/support so I did. I did everything it listed and it still doesn't work.
Here's what I did: iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon The next step says take it to the Apple store. The nearest one is 2 hours and I was hoping to fix it with out that. Or should I save my time and not bother bringing it in? Is it dead? Thanks! |

I did not. I can't do anything with it. It sits on the screen with the red X for a minute or 2 and then shuts off. I restart it go through the process listed on apple.com and it just stays on the red X.

The hard drive ribbons have a bad habit of losing solid connections from time to time. I've had several do the same thing, each several times. In every instance, I popped it open, unhooked the HD ribbon(from HD and board) and plugged it back in again. It worked perfectly every time, and usually lasted six months to a year before needing it again.
Popping the iPod apart isn't scary, either. It's not very delicate, it's not very many pieces, and it can't go back together wrong, it's not possible. It's like a 6 piece jigsaw puzzle, I'm confident anyone can do it. |

As long as we're doing ipod questions...
I have a Nano. The fast forward 30 seconds at a time sucks for things an hour long. I once accidentally got it to fast forward using the wheel, but I haven't been able to figure it out since. How do you do that? |
