Jury Duty

I have to show up for jury selection at the county courthouse in a couple weeks, which I've never done before, so I was wondering what other people's experiences were like. I'm honestly a little curious to see what being on a jury would be like, but in actuality it wouldn't be good to miss work. Any real suggestions for how to get out of it? Any amusing stories?

I figure that I could just say I'm a fairly new employee at my company (year and a half), working for an hourly wage, and I couldn't afford to miss work. I don't think this would go over well, but I've thought about saying "I'm working towards a promotion, and I don't want my boss to think I'm so stupid I couldn't get out of jury duty."

I've asked my co-workers about what they think, but all I get is joke answers, atleast here I no I'll get funnier responses.
