okay, so here's what i'm sending in to Leo. feel free to use it or re-word it for your own purposes. but to get KATG's name mentioned on TWIT would be big exposure i think.

Hi Mr. Laporte!

First off, I just want to say what a huge fan i am of you and the rest of the guests that you have on all of your pod casts but in particular, TWIT. You clearly have a high regard for accuracy in what you say and report on and I applaud you for your sincere efforts.

I was interested in something that you guys were talking about a few shows back, when you made mention that technology is cutting out the middle man (i.e. the fat-cat music producer record labels) and allowing the artist a direct connection between them and their
fans without the restrictions artistically and financially. I couldn't agree more. But it got me thinking along the lines of pod casting.

Which is why I was excited to hear that Adam Curry expressed interest in doing a show with you guys in the near future. He seems to be the closest (and most motivated) person to realizing a successful "label" for pod casting. But it interests me that in this time where the artist is able to easily produce and distributes themselves to a large number of people, why they should need something like a label? With all the bad mouthing of music labels that is so prevalent now-a-days (especially in the technology world). Isnt it understandable to think that these very same people would be hesitant to sign onto a label such as the Podshow network?

I understand that anyone could sign small net casts that don't generate that much traffic because they're small enough to take the bait of some kind of money potential for their efforts. And under the Podshow scheme, it would seem as though this label were built
to take advantage of the smaller pod casters.

So I guess that my question would be this: What is the M.O. for the Podshow network with respect to the shows that they host? is it purposefully intending to keep the smaller shows? It would seem that there are much better and larger pod casts out there such as
"Keith and the Girl" that have a very strong following, who get corporate advertising and have started gaining significant income through selling show-based goods (hats, t-shirts, key chains, etc) would be much more worth while. Of course, for a show like "Keith and the Girl" to agree to a Podshow contract, the money would have to be a large sum simply because they're doing so well on their own. But isn't that the fundamental flaw in the owning of a label today? Are you limited to only small-time shows? Otherwise, if they do so well on their own, the support of a larger organization for promotion becomes unnecessary.

Just a note, podcast/podcasting is one word. Otherwise, it is perfect.

Not to be a wet blanket.....

Leo uses auto responses for most of his emails.....

He has a system in place that looks for keywords, and responds accordingly...

The best way would to be to post this on the twit subscriber forums, or at the leoville town square.....

I know you have spent some time to write this, but Leo is not one to get a "guest" on the show and stir up some shit..... Its not his style....

I hate A.C. as much as the next KATG listener, but I think it would be a better use of your time to just promote KATG.... A.C. and PodShow will be their own downfall in the longrun.....

That's a pretty beautiful letter. I dig it, and, if we had any chance to get a mention, this one will probably do the job. It doesn't sound too kiss-assy, or fan-driven; it appears to be a well-thought-out and relevant letter.

yeh, you're probably right. anyone a susbscriber to the TWIT forums who would post this up? i just wish that dvorak wasn't given kudos by AC. he's the guy to most likey stir shit up, but with that compliment given by AC he may not want to either. i'll still send one to him too though.
