KATG Desktop App 2.0

I made a Keith and The Girl Desktop App, it's cross platform so Windows/Mac.. Linux is not officially supported, although it should work more or less.
It uses AIR(Adobe Integrated Runtime) which is basically the flash browser plugin for actual programs, anyway AIR will be installed automatically if you don't have it.

To get the app [Click Here].
The feature list and change log are there too but I'll post the latest changes at the end of this thread after updates.

What's it for?
The goal is to make it really easy to get the shows, feed, and interact with the community without having to deal with itunes, rss, or anything complicated, and have it all in one place.

Some code is based on the widget, uses TheGrundle's data feeds, and props to Doug for the new API stuff.

You can ask for support, report bugs, request features, or whatever here, to see the faq [Click Here].

Here's a list of features:
  • Cross platform - via Adobe AIR
    • Windows
    • Mac
    • Most Linux Distros - depending on hardware and some other factors
  • Completely rewritten from the ground up
    • New 3D design/interface
    • Optional 3D rotation of the whole app so it looks like Logo Keith and Chemda are following your mouse cursor
    • Easily see what the latest show is
    • Easily see when and who is on the next show
    • Automatically checks for app updates
    • Preferences and Links window
  • News - links open in your browser
    • @keithmalley and @keithandthegirl Twitters
    • Community Tweets
    • New Forum Threads in Talk Shite
    • New Forum Threads for the entire forums
    • The full Calendar and a button that launches the Meetups forum
  • Episodes
    • Download and listen to or watch the entire archive (Shows, KATGTV, and Backstage)
    • Stream shows
    • Remembers play position
    • Audio Player is a separate compact window that can stay on top of other windows if you want
    • Extra volume for quieter backstage episodes
    • Multiple episode downloader
    • Watch KATGTV episodes fullscreen
    • Color coded lists (easily tell audio from video from PDFs)
    • Handles PDFs in the feed by opening them in your browser
  • Show Notes and Pictures
    • Opens a big coverflow-ish gallery of all the show pictures
    • Use your mouse or left and right arrow keys to go through the gallery
    • Also shows Guests and show notes for each episode
    • Roll-over picture titles if they block something to hide them and see the full image
    • Buttons to visit the episode's thread, or download it in the episode downloader
  • Live Shows
    • Play the Audio/iTunes/Shoutcast Feed
    • Launch the chat/cams
    • Launch LiveVideo P! SP!
    • Right click the chat, livevideo, or feedback to open it in your browser instead
    • Send Feedback
    • Optional Extra volume boost
    • See the last 10 songs played on the feed
    • Near and during liveshows the liveshow countdown will popup
    • Option to tune in to the audio feed automatically during live shows
    • Option to open the chat automatically during live shows

Quick update I just put version 2.1.0 up. It just fixes a bug in 2.0 when downloading an episode with oddly numbered/placed quotes in the descriptions.

happy listening

I'm on Ubuntu

Is there anyway for you to become a trusted publisher, I'm sure the community can send in letters to adobe or fill out forms for you or something...

Edit: One small bug, if I put the app on another workspace in ubuntu, it will stay in the task bar of the main workspace. But, it is epic.

the trusted thing has to do with the certificate the app is signed with. right now it's just a regular generated one, it's a security thing so the app will only update with versions signed by my certificate. the only real benefit to buying a certificate from Verisign or thawte is it guarantees that the first time you install the app it's from me. i don't think anyone's had time to create a fake evil clone of the app since i published it yesterday and it's a few thousand lines of code so if you hurry and download it or have an older version and update there's nothing to worry about.

verified certificates cost a pretty penny too, but i'll probably need one in the next few months for some other unrelated projects(you can use one certificate for multiple apps) so... look forward to that.

The workspace issue is weird, I don't think I have that much control over taskbars... maybe try opening the app when you're in the 2nd workspace. if that doesn't work try windex.

if you click on the ? behind Logo-Chemda there's an option to turn it off.

I was a little divided on how to deal with the "auto tune in to audio feed" setting when you have the chat window open. if you decide to switch to ustream and turn off the audio feed while "auto tune in" is activated then after a minute the audio feed will start playing again... haven't decided if this needs fixing or what direction to go in but opinions are welcome.

If you are in windows you can minimize the app by clicking the icon in the taskbar, then simply click on it again to bring it back up.

I concur with adding the ability to move it. I would like it if there were some sort of movement handle. Either through pressing a hotkey, like ctrl or alt, the handle would show (that way the handle isn't always visible and I can enjoy the app's appearance without it), and then by click-hold-drag move the app to anywhere on my screen.

Otherwise, this is a HUGEly awesome upgrade from the older versions, and an incredible advertisement to me to look into Adobe Air development. Always loved the platform, and with its suggested support in Microsoft's Phone 7 OS due out later this year, I'm thinking about jumping in head first.

I'm certain I'll think of other "features" later, but for now, seems like you have everything covered except the ability to move it.

Good work dude!
