Also even friends and loved ones could turn into stalkers and do bad stuff. All it takes is a few drinks and a bad fiht and they spew your details to bad people or fill your box with threats and things get ugly.
I havent got ANYONE i trust so much. I need to be in control of my own private life. I can share info and evcerything and i will but i also have to be able to protect myself and the web makes people too vulnerable. |

I think alot of people just aren't very careful with who they share personal stuff with online. I periodically clear out my facebook friends list, but no one I've talked to about this before ever has. If I met you at a party 6 months ago, you friended me, and then I've never talked to you again, you don't need to see my comments. I also don't have any extended family members or co-workers on facebook, when I quit my last job, I deleted all those people cause there was no reason to keep them informed, I don't know who might have a problem with me. If you keep your list of people to real friends and people you'd like to hang out with, you should be fine.

There is a whole generation of people who have grown up sharing every little detail about their lives online in some form or another. Old people just don't get things like Facebook and Foursquare.

I voted yes. I've always thought Keith sounded like a grumpy old man.
I totally get the 4sq thing, but I still like it and use it. I like checking in somewhere and seeing who else is there or has been there recently. I live in a small enough city that most of the other people on 4sq are people I know, or friends of my friends. Someone I don't know tweeted me yesterday and asked if it was me he saw running in the park yesterday. I could have thought 'OMG what a stalker', but I looked at his online presence and he seemed fine. The next day my workmate said, 'oh yeah, Hamish, I know him'. Maybe I can be more trusting because I live in a smaller society.

I really don't get the big fit around the location aware services.
People keep talking about "letting everyone know where you are at all the time", which is a complete misrepresentation of the service. You're not letting everybody know ALL the time. It's not like you can throw up a google map and see dots of all you're friends moving around on the map. You are in full control, you decide which places you share and with whom you share them (the latter is linked on who you befriend on the network). I would never share a home address, just as I have never shared my own. So what is the harm in letting people know I'm at a bar? And keep in mind, with people I mean not every single person on the internet, just my contacts on the network. Sure there can be closet-creeps within that network but what are they gonna do? Yeah they know I'm not home now, but they won't know how to find my home. Think before you share, that's all. |

And people are also reading magazines today I guess. No worries. Everything's fine, Bryan. Everything's a big deal with these kids today... |
