I've had pretty good success with craigslist people. They are somewhat flaky about whether they want something or not sometimes.
When KATG did their cruise I gave myself a challenge to fund it entirely by winning prizes at radio station events and selling them on CL. It took 9 months and going to promotional events almost daily and on weekends 3 or 4 of them each day, but I did it. On CL I sold tons of concert and sports tickets as well as merchandise I won. Some prizes I kept and went to some cool concerts, even won a 50" plasma which I kept. Best part though was going on the cruise with $200 a day spending money for essentially free. My favorite section is the barter area. Best one I saw is the guy who wanted to trade a horse for a canoe. I imagine he rode his horse to a river, and now needs the canoe.

I tried selling an electric guitar and small amp (which I bought because I thought I would become SUPER COOL ROCK STAR) on Craigslist for a very reasonable price ($125) and I remember one of the first responses was from some kid: "hey will you trade that for a couple xbox 360 games just let me know thank you".

The money was only part of it, it was more of a game to me. A challenge to see if it was possible to do.
I only did it when it was convenient or had spare time. I didn't go out of my way for them. I had a spreadsheet at one point with everything. It averaged out to about $14 per hour. But it was fun. I met a few cool people, it was mostly eating free food, talking to people and hanging out for an hour or two. Not bad "work". I got good enough that I knew how I needed to fold my paper to have a better chance of getting drawn out of one size/shape of box versus another. When to put it in, what angle to slide it in at. Most of the time the odds should have been like 20 or 30 to 1, but for me it was closer to 5 to 1 because of figuring those things out. Also... aren't you the guy who was negative $ per hour in a poker challenge? Last edited by EastTexas; 01-30-2011 at 08:59 PM. Reason: bustin' dwarriors balls with last comment |
