Agreed with Butterfly Effect - can't wait for their new album.
They played a gig with Cog here in Perth a couple months back - very cool. Love the new song, Pheonix. |

I agree with both of you about Butterfly Effect. This is a great band. I also listened to brianward81's suggestions. I am really digging Cog. Thanks for turning me on to some great new music.

More bands to check out
Shihad: One of the best live acts I've ever seen - they're from New Zealand and they have been around over 10 years. A couple of years ago they changed their name to Pacifier (a name of one of their songs) for one album to try and make it in the US (the US label said Shihad sounded too similar to Jihad). They realised their mistake and changed back to Shihad and brought out one their best albums yet. Listen to Alive or Day Will Come - rock goodness.
http://www.myspace.com/22031241 http://www.shihad.com/home.htm Antistatic: Another local Perth band; 3 young guys of about 19 or 20 and they're influenced by Deftones, Muse, Cog, etc... New EP out in May I hope. http://antistatic.com.au http://www.myspace.com/antistatic Wolfmother: Pretty sure these guys are in the US now trying to secure a US release of their debut album. They're compared to Black Sabbath cuz they share the same type of guitar and vocal sound. But very cool music, really fun to play guitar along with too. http://www.wolfmother.com Earshot: These guys haven't really had much exposure in Australia - don't think you can even buy their CDs here yet. I had to import mine. But I think they're worth a listen. http://www.myspace.com/earshot serial_x: Killswitch Engage sound pretty cool, got the 3 mp3s from their site - bet they'd put on an awesome live show. |

I'll second the Earshot, but when I first got the two albums I have of theirs, I didn't like it. Later, I really started liking them.
Fort Minor - Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park playing with some guys from Crystal Method. About 6 good songs out of 12 or so, none are horrible songs. Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You. Great lyrics, good sound on some songs, a little too post-punk on others. But one of my favorite albums. Acidplanet Electronica Podcast - Weekly hour of great driving music. Dirty Vegas - Dirty Vegas. Note, not their second album. Make no mistake, the sucked by going acoustic. Hell, they are a electro-euro-dance-ish band. But, really, not as flat or shallow as that. I like the album. Mystikal - Ghetto Fabulous. another I've liked recently. Bionic Jive - Armageddon Through Your Speakers. The roots of a lot of the DMX and Mystikal style music. But, not quite. Distorted guitars with your power rap? Yes, please. |

Have loved Mystikal for years. Definite guilty pleasure and the words to Shake Your Ass are burned into my brain. |

Canada represent
Here is a sampler of 15 bands for you from across Canada ... I don't necessarily endorse them all, but my personal favourites on this list are Novillero, Comme un Homme Libre (I have always been a sucker for female lead vocals ... mmmm, sweet Catatonia, mmmm Metric) and Shout Out Out Out Out (who made a big splash recently at SXSW). Don't be scared by the French commentary at the beginning, just ff to 3:08 and it's all music from there.

Without a doubt, my absolute favourite band and definite pioneers of the "metalcore" genre. |
