There's no shortage of shooting and racing on the 360 but if you're looking for a combination then Crackdown is a shooty racey GTA-like thing.

EDIT: well, yeah, I guess if you're looking for a game like GTA, then GTA is good choice too.

EDIT II: there's also Saint's Row II, which has the silliness of the old GTA games.

And there's Red Faction Guerrilla, which let's you smash things.

orange box was a good suggestion! if they're only crashing there and have a night to play with it, you can burn through portal in a few hours... and those would be a few hours very well spent.

Didn't he ask for GTA-like games? I recommend Orange box in conversations about grocery but it's not really similar to GTA.

true! but. GTA isn't really the kind of game that you just sit down and play for a night and get a full experience. as far as time vs. value is considered, portal is pretty much the best you're going to find.

crackdown was a good suggestion as well though- the over the top absurdity and such could make for a pretty good sort-term session, whereas in GTA it's considerably slower paced.

and you know what? trials HD. all the way.

If you're looking some xbox live arcade games.. Here's some good ones:

Geometry Wars 2
'Splosion Man
Castle Crashers
Battlefield 1943
Shadow Complex

They've all got a demo also so you can always try before buying.
