Stephen Flemmi
"The Rifleman" FlemmiStephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi is an Irish-Italian mobster and FBI informant. Flemmi was a hitman for James "Whitey" Bulger the South Boston, Massachusetts crime boss and killed dozens of people. He was friends with the head of the Winter Hill Gang, Howie Winter. Once he and Bulger informed on Winter and got him convicted for race fixing in 1979, Flemmi and Bulger took control of the Winter Hill Gang. According to former associate Kevin Weeks, Flemmi was so homicidal that Bulger once compared him to Josef Mengele. He is currently serving time in prison for murder. However, he still owns businesses with his friend Jimmy Flynn. |

Westfield Franklin Park
Westfield Franklin, formerly Franklin Park Mall, is a shopping mall in Toledo, Ohio. Its anchor stores are Macy's, Dillard's, JC Penney and Dick's Sporting Goods. The Marshall Field's store was officially renamed Macy's on September 9, 2006. The Westfield Group acquired the shopping center in early 2002, and renamed it "Westfield Shoppingtown Franklin Park", dropping the "Shoppingtown" name in June 2005. In 2005 a massive $100 million renovation opened, including a National Amusements multiplex theater. Not only does Franklin Park reflect the modern style of Maumee's Levis Commons but it also bestows the comfort of the Southwyck Shopping Center in its prime days (1992)

White elephant
For other uses, see White elephant (disambiguation). A white elephant is a supposedly valuable possession whose upkeep costs exceed its usefulness, and it is therefore a liability. The term derives from the white elephant of East Asia, which is high-maintenance and has no practical use, but is considered sacred in Burmese culture (and therefore cannot be neglected or abandoned). A common elephant is expensive enough to maintain, considering the amount of food and water it requires. Thus it is considered a good idea to gift a white elephant to an enemy in the hope of bringing them to financial ruin. In Sri Lanka the term is also used to imply that something is good to look at on the outside but is in fact only a waste of resources. Ironically, in Thailand, Cambodia and Burma, seeing a white elephant is a sign of extremely good luck as it was one of the protectors of Buddha. Models of white elephants are often found adorning Buddhist temples. As elephants are not naturally white, seeing them is rare. P.T. Barnum once sent an agent to buy a white elephant, sight unseen, hoping to use it as a circus attraction. When it arrived in Bridgeport, Connecticut, it was covered with large pinkish splotches and was not white at all. The public was not impressed and Barnum had to keep his "white elephant" hidden from public view in a stable while he tried to decide how to recover some of the high cost. The elephant later died when this stable burned down. The metaphor was popularized in the United States after New York Giants manager John McGraw told the press that Philadelphia businessman Benjamin Shibe had "bought himself a white elephant" by acquiring the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team in 1901. The Athletics manager Connie Mack subsequently selected the elephant as the team symbol and mascot. The team is occasionally referred to as the White Elephants. |

Decay theory
The Decay theory states that when something new is learned, a neuro-chemical "memory trace" is formed, but over time this trace tends to disintegrate. Decay theory suggests that the passage of time always increases forgetting. However there is one circumstance where old memories can be stronger than more recent ones. Older memories are sometimes more resistant to shocks or physical assaults on the brain than recent memories. The decay theory along with the interference theory are two suggested reasons why people forget. Decay alone, although it may play some role, cannot entirely explain lapses in long-term memory. A trace is formed by sensory neurones, this trace is out memory, when we forget we lose that trace.# Another theory of forgetting in STM is the Displacement Theory |

Annie Hall
Directed by Woody Allen Produced by Charles H. Joffe, Jack Rollins Written by Woody Allen, Marshall Brickman Starring Woody Allen Diane Keaton Tony Roberts Christopher Walken Carol Kane Paul Simon Cinematography Gordon Willis Editing by Wendy Greene Bricmont Ralph Rosenblum Distributed by United Artists Release date(s) April 20, 1977 Running time 93 minutes Language English Budget $4,000,000 (est.) IMDb profile Annie Hall is a 1977 Academy Award-winning romantic comedy film directed by Woody Allen from a script he co-wrote with Marshall Brickman. Allen's working title for the film was Anhedonia, but this was considered unmarketable. Brickman's suggested alternative, It Had to Be Jew, was considered even less marketable, and ultimately Annie Hall was settled upon as the release title. Because of biographical similarities with the character Alvy and Woody Allen (including Allen's previous relationship with co-star Diane Keaton (real name Diane Hall), who portrays the character Annie Hall), Annie Hall has been widely assumed to be semi-autobiographical, but Allen has denied this. This film is number 28 on Bravo's 100 Funniest Movies. Plot Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. The film is set in New York City and Los Angeles. Allen plays Alvy Singer, a comedian obsessed with death, attempting to maintain a relationship with the ditzy but exuberant title character (played by Diane Keaton), who loves life. The film chronicles their relationship over several years, intercut with various fantasy trips into each other's history (Annie is able to "see" Alvy's family when Alvy was only a child, and likewise Alvy observes Annie's past sexual relationships). After several years, many arguments and many reconciliations, the two realize they are fundamentally different and split up, with Annie moving in with a Hollywood executive (played by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel). Alvy eventually realizes he still loves her and tries to come back and get her. He fails, and, resignedly, returns to New York. However, they are able to meet later on good terms and have no regrets about the relationship. Alvy Singer grew up in Brooklyn. His father operated a bumper cars concession. He claims the family home was located below the Thunderbolt rollercoaster on Coney Island. [edit] Film technique The film makes use of various techniques such as split-screen imagery, double exposure, breaks in character to address the camera directly (breaking the "fourth wall"), subtitles expounding the characters' real thoughts (as contrasted with the dialogue) and elements of magic realism. For instance, Allen's character, standing in a cinema queue with Annie and listening to someone behind him expound on Marshall McLuhan's work, leaves the line to speak to the camera directly. The man comes to speak to the camera in his defense, and Allen resolves the dispute by pulling McLuhan himself from behind a counter to tell the man that his interpretation is wrong. Another scene is animated, featuring a cartoon Allen and the Witch from Snow White. [edit] Awards [edit] Academy Awards Award Person Best Actress in a Leading Role Diane Keaton Best Director Woody Allen Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen Woody Allen Marshall Brickman Best Picture Charles H. Joffe Nominated: Best Actor in a Leading Role Woody Allen The American Film Institute places Annie Hall on the following lists of its 100 Years series: * AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies (#31) * AFI's 100 Years... 100 Laughs (#4) * AFI's 100 Years... 100 Passions (#11) * AFI's 100 Years... 100 Songs (#90; "Seems Like Old Times," performed by Diane Keaton) * AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes (#55; Annie: "La-dee-da, la-dee-da...") The film is consistently in the top 150 on the Internet Movie Database's list of top 250 films, and has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Zagat Survey Movie Guide (2002) ranks Annie Hall one of the top ten comedies of all time, one of the top ten movies of the 1970s and as Allen's best film as a director. In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted it the forty-second greatest comedy film of all time. A scene from Annie Hall Enlarge A scene from Annie Hall [edit] Influence Annie Hall is a benchmark for modern romantic comedies, with a large influence over future films. Its mix of relatively realistic scenes and surreal flights of fancy was highly influential on later films and TV series; the 1980s TV series Thirtysomething, for instance, was just one of many shows that would break away from more realistic, dramatic scenes for comic trips into the imagination of the characters. In fashion, Keaton dressed in layers with a tie (by Ralph Lauren), which became a popular style. This movie was also Christopher Walken's first notable performance as Annie's strange and suicidally fixated brother. It brought the actor and his unusual qualities to the attention of the mainstream viewing public. [edit] Cast and roles include * Woody Allen — Alvy Singer * Diane Keaton — Annie Hall * Tony Roberts — Rob * Carol Kane — Allison Portchnik * Paul Simon — Tony Lacey * Shelley Duvall — Pam * Janet Margolin — Robin * Colleen Dewhurst — Mrs. Hall * Christopher Walken — Duane Hall * Donald Symington — Mr. Hall * Helen Ludlam — Grammy Hall * Mordecai Lawner — Mr. Singer * Joan Neuman — Mrs. Singer * Jonathan Munk — Alvy Singer at 9 * Ruth Volner — Alvy's Aunt * Martin Rosenblatt — Alvy's Uncle * Hy Anzell — Joey Nichols * Rashel Novikoff — Aunt Tessie * Russell Horton — Man in Theatre Line * Marshall McLuhan — Himself * Jeff Goldblum — Lacey Party Guest

Metaphysics (from Greek: μετά (meta) = "after", φύσικα (phsika) = "those on nature", derived from the arrangement of Aristotle's works in antiquity) is the branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the nature of the world. It is the study of being or reality. It addresses questions such as: What is the nature of reality? Is there a God? What is man's place in the universe?
A central branch of metaphysics is ontology, the investigation into what categories of things are in the world and what relations these things bear to one another. The metaphysician also attempts to clarify the notions by which people understand the world, including existence, objecthood, property, space, time, causality, and possibility.

Sperm donation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Sperm donation is the practice by which a man gives or more commonly sells his semen to be used specifically to produce a baby. A man who donates sperm, a sperm donor, usually does so at a clinic known as a sperm bank. A recipient of donated sperm may use such a service for many reasons. The most common reasons are that the recipient's partner may be infertile or he may carry a genetic disease. Donor sperm is also used when a single woman doesn't want a male partner or a lesbian couple chooses to have a baby. The cost of donor sperm in the United States ranges from around $200 - $3,000 per vial unit of semen, usually a quantity of around 0.7 ml.
