I was 19 when it happened, and I remember where I was, just like my mom remembers the assassination of MLK or JFK. But what really gets me this year is this..
I waitress on the weekends and I work with hostesses that are in high school and they don't remember 9/11 at all...they were 3 or 4 years old. It's such a part of history to me. It's strange that we're getting to the point where young people don't know what happened. Last edited by punk'n; 09-12-2013 at 09:44 PM. |

My daughter was in kindergarten and this year she said to me that she remembers when it happened. My son was 2 and he has nothing. But it makes sense. That's just too young. That's why the memorial was built, so people would never forget.

Fuck you Brian.
Fuck you for bringing up this wonderful poetic song and raping it into my subconscious. I've always loved this song, and many of the other S&G songs from that era; but the haunting lyrics & melodies of this tune resonated with my core, perhaps even more than the iconic Sound of Silence. The only exception being "counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike"... I don't know why some random post by some guy on the interwebs has had this song going through my head. I didn't even play the youtube clip. Didn't need to. Make of this what you will. Season it with Parsley Sage Rosemary & Thyme. You are a Rock, you are an Island. Hail Satan. Hail a cab. Be all you can be.

It happened when I was in middle school. I remember what America was like before 9/11, and to me 9/11 is an event that changed things, not a thing in the past that caused things to be how they've always been. There is probably only a small window of people younger than me who can say the same thing. That seems really weird to me.

I still remember sitting in class (must have been the last for the day, given the different time zones) when one of us suddenly got a text saying the WTC was on fire.
So far nothing all too touchy - fires happen all the time. When I came home a good 30 mins later my mother had this certain look on her face. Worried, hysterical, uncertainty. We sat in front of the TV and witnessed the second plane going in and both towers crumble. I still remember laughing hysterically when the towers crumbled, having a faint idea on many FDNY / NYPD / civilians still had to be inside. Though I was 'only' 16 at that time, I am still ashamed of that emotion... A good 2 hours into the entire shock and awe, it was reported that the German government decided to raise thread levels. For one this meant that my father who was on a business trip was stranded a good 3 hours away from home. Secondly, local administration role-called all firefighters of my hometown. I spent another good 3 hours at the fire station, nobody knowing what was going on really, not knowing what was gonna happen next, not knowing if Germany was under attack, too... At around 7pm local time I returned home to find my family united in front of the TV. Upon seeing the situation unfolding my father had decided to get a rental car and drive home. At around 8pm local time nobody was capable of watching TV anymore, pictures and news were just too devastating. That was my worst 16th birthday.
