So, let's say I was moving to Kentucky....
Forums, I need your help.
Does anyone live in Kentucky, specifically the Louisville/Fort Knox area? There's a strong possibility that I am going to be taking a job that will move me there come June. I am a 22 year old male, fresh out of college and even more fresh out of a long term relationship. The job will probably pay a pretty decent bachelor's salary and I'd like to hav a place of my own. I like city living but I also like being able to get away from it all. My only requisites are that I have easy access to a coffee shop, a comic shop and a liquor store. Where should I be looking?

Louisville is a decent sized town with some cool older building and revival neighborhoods. There is a good mix of commerce, healthcare, and university crowds which makes for decent restaurants and some variety of nightlife choices.

I just want to make sure the whole place isn't just a one big wretched hive of scum and villainy. Because, I already spent the last few years in Richmond, Virginia and I'm looking for a bit of a change. |

I live in Louisville about 30 minutes away from downtown. I lived here all my life, except a short stint in Bowling Green, KY for a year and a half to go to college, but I ended up transferring back to U of L this semester. I love this city- most of the time. It can be boring and you can never count on the weather.
If you want to live in a more active and urban part of town i recommend the highlands and crescent hill or german town. Old Louisville in general would be an awesome place to live, in my opinion. Victorian mansions, local coffee shops on every other block, and an array of interesting local businesses...and q'doba at the corner of bardstown and eastern parkway is 24-hr on thursday, friday and saturday. What more could you ask for?

I moved to KY from Atlanta 4 years ago to go to school (I go to UK). I'm graduating in a few months but Kentucky and Lexington have definitely become my second homes. Some things to know:
-Bourbon is everywhere! -I don't know if you smoke but its way more socially acceptable here than elsewhere -Qdoba and Fazolis are amazing! -You're gonna be in the hometown of the KY derby -Derby pie is delicious -Mint Juleps -It's Lou-a-vulle not Louie-ville -There aren't any pro-football or basketball teams so everyone cheers for UK. Unless you're black or from Louisville, then you cheer for U of L -The weather is unpredictable. One day is can be 70 degrees and the next is can snow. Invest in winter clothes, especially snow boots. -Louisville has this awesome firework show called Thunder over Louisville -Louisville has busing so almost everyone goes to private schools. Most are same sex and christian. The football rivalries between the male schools are ridiculous. Even in college they continue arguing about which school is better. I've only been to the mall at Louisville (it's really nice, tons of shops) and have been mostly in Lexington but I think you'll come to love KY. Good luck on the move! |
