Talking Soldier of the Week--Support Our Troops Thread

I would like to nominate SGT. Robert Vela to be the first soldier to feel the awesome power of the KATG forum. I am a 'sponsor' of this soldier which means that he requested through an organization that he be hooked up with someone who would write a letter once a week and send a box of crap every once in a while.

Through the course of corresponding with him, I learned that he is a 24 year old mechanic who has 6 years (!!) of experience in the military. This guy is no slouch! Although I have disagreed with this war and just about everything that Bush has done since he 'took' office in 2000, I have always been sympathetic to the victims of this administration--and what group has been hit harder by Bush et al. than the American soldier? So, for Christmas, I would like to give this guy something that he really wants; he likes music and is "...big into the HIP HOP/ R&B scene, as well as Chicano Rap music, or stuff like techno,..." Unfortunately, I don't own any of this kind of music and don't even know what might be good to buy.

So, this is where you guys come in. PLEASE HELP ME give this guy something special for Christmas! If you know ANYTHING about this kind of music, please copy any good music of this sort onto CD and send it to the address below. If it is mailed by Monday it should get there by Christmas. Even if you can't get it done by then, please consider doing it some time. And, if you don't have any of this kind of music to send to him, please consider just sending a note or something saying thanks or other words of support. Even though the situation is fucked, please keep your notes as positive as you can.

THANKS EVERYONE!

P.S. It would be cool if everyone who sends something could post on the forum whether they sent a card or letter or music so I'll know what kind of response he got. THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!

(The address below is complete; don't write 'Iraq' or anything on it, it will only get there using the following address written line for line as it is below. Letters cost the same as regular U.S. postage.)

Thanks to everyone who responded!

http://www.cardstore.com/asp/usps/index.cfm?

If that link doesn't work because I screwed up, you can go to www.usps.com then go to the NetPost Cardstore.

You can purchase traditional folded cards or postcards directly online, customize your message, and have them mail it for you.

You can also create your own card with a photo of yourself or other created images uploaded from your computer.

No minimum purchase required......send 1 or send 1000.

Thanks for starting the thread!

P.S. I sent him a Christmas card with a note inside. I'm having it mailed for me. Total cost was $2.88 for those who are curious about prices. I think postcards are 88 cents. You will need a credit/debit card on file for payment.

Army SGT with 6 years in makes $2,205.30 a month.

Tough to do anything extra if you have bills back home.

So where's the "Support our Mail Room Workers" thread?

It's more about tanks (no pun, just the Malleyism) than finance methinks.
