Here is a podcast about songs that make you cry which I enjoyed a few months ago.
Cry Baby Cry: Songs That Make You Weep : NPR Ani DiFranco's live at Carnegie Hall version of Serpentine and then Self Evident which she soon after Sept 11 is probably the only song/poem that comes close for me. Its a one two punch but the whole concert works towards it. Hi Lucas! |

Hey. Are you Josh? Your picture is tiny but it says you're in Sydney, so I'm pretty sure you're Josh.
Continuing the theme of the thread, it only ever happened once, but one time I watched The Wall and lost my shit during Comfortably Numb. Cried my fucking eyes out. |

Happy by Saving Jane really captures all the regret and pain of seeing an old flame with a new love.
And Bobby Mitchell's Closure gets an honorable mention as well, but only because I can't find it on youtube. |

I am terrible and lyricists would be so annoyed with me, but its rarely the words in a song that can break me down. It's the sound of the guitars (the gentlest pluck to the hardest, distorted attack), a snare hit on the drums that echoes, an unexpected chord change, anything really. I love vocals but I don't think I could relay a vocal line that I love but I could hum a thousand melodies that I do.
There's been a lot of metal music lately that has got to me, think the aggression reflects a lot of the grief of losing my Dad last year. Helm - Salt (the quiet breakdown which leads into this incredibly strong, Isis-like vocal). Tesseract - Eden (he screams "sacrifice" at a point towards the end of the song and it gets me) and for the not so heavy songs; Smashing Pumpkins - Speed Kills from the Stand Inside Your Love single(just the whole sound of this song, its fuckin gorgeous) Foo Fighters - Walk (the lyrics in this get to me, I have a habit of making the lyrics fit with whats been happening lately which is just a recipe for water works. Me learning to walk again is me learning to live without my Dad around). Jeff Buckley - pick a song. I've been a random, bumbling mess in the last 9 months. But I'm so hardcore, yo.
