Here's an LG LCD, same size and price as the above Vizio, but it's LG, and I really like them....LG 42" 1080p LCD HDTV - Walmart.com

This is the TV I got, Insignia 42" Plasma it's $450 now, so not as cheap as when I got it, but it's still a pretty good deal to consider.

I've heard that some people get cracked TV screens when they order online, I would never order a TV online personally because I'm afraid of this happening, and I hate having to deal with any sort of customer service / returning crap....so I'd also contact your local places to see if they have the items/deals that are on their websites. (If you end up purchasing from a large retail place)

For absolute best picture in a room that can be made dark nothing beats a plasma. I love Panansonic plasma.

Also, if you have good broadband watch for sets having net connectivity built-in. Netflix etc There are some really nice Sony and Samsung sets - some with wifi N. There are widgets and such that are pretty nice. And they can stream DLNA media over a home network.

i'm not a fan of big plasmas just because of how hot they are. they can burn images onto in inner screen so easily. they put off so much heat you'll sweat if you walk within 2 feet of it.
and if you get a few dead pixels with an LED/LCD, they can be repaired for a small price. when a plasma fucks up in any way, it's scrap.

Buzzing? No buzzing unless you put your ear up to it.

It does get pretty hot. But my house tends to be cool, so I welcome it when I walk up next to it. And I don't feel any heat from the couch.

It's hard to get a good LCD 58". Plasma is the way to go above the 40s.

As for the life, I sort of don't mind things failing after 5 years or so. Gives me an excuse with my wife to go buy the latest and greatest! Our Sony 52" rear projection (4:3) is 11 years old and works perfectly. It was a real bitch to convince her that we needed to upgrade to HD. I finally did it and now we have the rear projection in our bedroom. Seemed odd in there at first, but we got used to it. It's like a drive-in movie theater. Was fun carrying that thing up 2 flights of stairs (I have a split).

I can't vouch for YOUR TV, lol, but I can say that a lot of the nicest looking images I've seen on TVs are in the 50"+ Samsung plasmas, I don't know what it is about them that makes then any better, but when looking at them compared to the rest around them, Samsung tends to look nicer.

-I've never really felt much heat from plasmas, like really...I almost don't know what you're talking about...and most plasmas now have built in technology to minimize burn-in, which I don't really think is an issue anymore. Old models were kinda bad in that though (comparatively).

Well, come on over and check it out!

Yeah, it looks great. I'll take a picture of it later. (I don't think you'll be able to tell if the picture is good in a photo, but I'll try.) The wall unit around it looks great too. Love that room!

just make sure you don't keep your plasma tv on one channel for too long. my uncle left his on nickelodeon for 4 hours and now the nick logo is burned into the screen on the bottom right. i have bigass projection tv in my living room right now because all of these fucking tvs are way overpriced. it just like the motherfucking smartphones!
all super over priced for the technology offered. but the masses are, of course, going to keep eating it up.
