Wow!

I thought there would be a wiki on Dark Was The Night. Nada! Just this on Blind Willie's Page:
Dark Was The Night, Cold Was the Ground was included on the Voyager Golden Record, sent into space with the Voyager spacecraft in 1977; this piece was used in the widely seen science show Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan in 1980. Blind Willie Johnson's music and life were featured in the 2003 film "The Soul of a Man" by Wim Wenders for the PBS series "The Blues." The film deals extensively with the Voyager spacecraft recording. This recording also got Johnson mentioned on an episode of the television series The West Wing (see "The Warfare of Genghis Khan"); the fictional Deputy White House Chief of Staff Josh Lyman used Johnson's recording to show the depth and soul behind the space program. As mentioned by Lyman, Johnson's music left the solar system on December 16, 2004. Dark Was The Night has also been covered by Jack Rose.

Try out Screamin' Jay Hawkins too. If only for the fact that he supposedly had about 72 illegitimate children.

If you have the chance, B.B. King still tours pretty much year round with just a few breaks in between. Go see him, he's still just as good as he ever was and, lets face it, the guy is close to if not 90 years old and diabetic, so the window is closing fast. I got to see him a few years ago and I wont ever forget it.

Oh, you know who else is great? Bobby "Blue" Bland. Especially "Two Steps From the Blues." Strictly it's more soul than blues, but the blues is in there, and it's an incredible album.

this is the only song I could find from the album and it's a weird video. But track down the album Penitentiary Blues by David Allan Coe. Bitchin' blues stuff before he went fully country.
