STEAM! SALE! TOTAL! WAR! HUH! YEAH!

The complex, beautiful, huge and historically meticulous Total War series (well, most of it) is on sale - 66% off!

The Rome, Medieval II and Empire: Total War games are just £13.59 in pack that even includes the Rome and Medieval II expansions - hooray!

You can also buy them on their own, I'm picking up Empire: Total War for £6.79: Total Cost.

So big it needs FIVE trailers to tell you all the kinds of play. Skipping the first 20 seconds gets you to the meat of the videos. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!

God, I remember that disastrous press conference. It's even been referenced in other games:

I like doing that video thing.

What's everyone playing?

Mass Effect 2. Game of the Year 2010, I guarantee it. It's a goddamn masterpiece.

First, I agree.

Second, have you finished it?

WHat are your favourite charcters? And what type of Sheperd you have? Paaragon, Renegade, Female, Male....

Also (SPOILERWHITE) if you finished the game:

How many of your team survived? on my first and for now onlu playthrough, i lost Dr Mordin. According to the interwebs, a combination of getting the upgrades for the team and the ship and obtaining the loyalty of your squad (through loyalty missions). So i'm curious.

I have Bioshock 2 waiting to be played. As soon as i have time to defeat the last boss of Gears of War (what a motherfucker), I'll go at it. I'm skeptical.

I just finished Bioshock, having another playthrough before the sequel. It's absolutely one of my favourite games for reasons I've stated and light-years ahead of other shooters in terms of being something intelligent and reaching beyond basic entertainment but, boy, did they misplace that third act.

I'll be playing the staring at steam game for a while until Bioshock 2 downloads. Something happened with the preload and, well, it didn't happen. All those people trying to download 11 gig of game at 00:01 Seattle time? No fun.

I also got the Special Edition God War 1 and 2 pack. Irritatingly, it's only going to be on sale here in a silly ultimate mega limited trilogy edition for £mysoul but the PS3 is easy and doesn't mind games from Canada. Not played it yet, blame Rapture.

Game of the year in January? Doesn't happen often but it's certainly a contender.

Yeah, I finished it with a Paragon female Soldier that I carried over from the first game. It's soooo fucking good.

I love pretty much all of the characters, except maybe Jack. Garrus, Mordin, and Grunt are great characters, but my favourite from ME2 is my favourite from 1: Tali.

SPOILERWHITE...AGAIN:
When I got to the end mission (I had all Normandy upgrades and all loyalties; I was missing some squad upgrades) I assigned Tali to hack the doors. According to the interwebs, she should be able to do this fine, but for some reason she took a rocket in the face and died and my fucking stomach dropped. So I restarted the whole mission and told robot fuck to have a go at the door, and he did fine, but then Mordin died mysteriously as I was trying to get back to the ship, so I restarted the whole mission AGAIN and told Mordin to escort the rescued crew back (if he ever sings a bar again it'll be totally worth it). He did fine, and everybody lived to see Mass Effect 3.

I think it speaks to the quality of the characters that I was fucking committed to getting everyone through that alive. The end mission is rather long, but I trekked through it several times just to ensure my team made it out alive.

Consider this: Mass Effect has the same Metacritic score as Uncharted 2, recipient of many of last year's GotY awards. It is tied for 2nd best 360 game ever alongside The Orange Box and BioShock (also a popular choice for GotY). It's the 25th highest ranked game on Metacritic of all time on any platform.

You don't get much stronger than that.

I wasn't disagreeing, just pointing the oddness of what might be the game of the year popping up in January.

I realise most people played them on it, but calling Bioshock and Orange Box xbox games pains me a bit too.

Me too, and that cant be attributed just to the amazing graphics or the story (Which is simple but effective). It's the atmosphere and charcter design that pushed me to play like a maniac at every chance i got. I was hooked to the faith of the normandy team. More than the first. The old charcters become even more layered and REAL than the first. And the new ones, well...

Thane, the Crying Freeman of the ME world? Jack, that is like a psychological study on what happens when a woman is abused repeatedly. Mordin, with his spock-like logic and his unexpected bursts of sweetness.

And Grunt? I loved Wrex, but the whole Grunt character arc made me fall in love not only with him, but with all the Krogan race.

The quotable lines, the deep moral and heartbreaking moments, all drenched in tight action. Amazing.

Bioshock 2 will have to be a real masterpiece to beat it.

Trine is on sale on Steam - 75% off. Which actually makes it decently priced for a change.
