Not one person that thinks we go to paradise if we pray Jesus into our hearts and repent from sin?

Isn't there one republican here?

I'm a republican.

When you die, you won't even know it, and you revert to how you thought about things just before you were conceived. One should take solace in the fact that, while an eternity in the future without existing seems to suck on an epic scale, it did actually go by pretty quick and effortlessly for the 14 billion or so years before you were born. You have to assume it's more of the same after, you've done it before.

Consciousness is nothing more than a mathematical pattern of neuron electrical firings in your brain. All our hopes and dreams are stored as neural pathways around the hippocampus. So if we do die and our spirits (whatever that is) is re-incarnated, it isn't as if we would remember anything because our shit is fucked (that's a technical term for our brains decaying into shit).

Of course, I'm all about trying to get a computer to duplicate them neuron firings in such a way that I can gradually transfer my consciousness to a computer. Robot immortality, wouldn't that be as ironic as fuck.
