Thankfully you do not work in casting.

also, Spike being a pretty emotionally flat character, a physical character with a slight build, who else that is recognizable and has box office draw would you get to play him?

Sorry, Reeves is about the only person I can imagine who could pull it off seriously. They could go with someone like Johnny Depp, if they wanted a more Disney approach, I suppose. Just how gutted do you want the original concept to be, though? And does Depp have the kind of committment to roles that Reeves does, in that he would forgo payment for a cut of the back end, eliminating a huge chunk of the budget, enabling a film to be better, like Reeves is...

Meh, good point, I think I imagined Spike as someone more...I dunno sarastically lighthearted, where as Keanu Reeves is more deadpan in a lot of his roles.

As far as getting someone else to play spike, I'd have to say it's tough for me to imagine a live action Cowboy Bebop film in the first place.

I wish they wouldn't. And Keanu of all people.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

All I have to say is... wow. Decent I guess... but people in this movie were even dumber than the characters in Burn After Reading! And that's saying something!

Old-school bloody fun. Nice kills, dumb script/dialogue, cool effects with your glasses.

6.5/10

I'm usually a defender of Keanu Reeves but I honestly don't see him working as Spike, with a bit of luck he'll prove me wrong. He might be the only actor who'd need to be less laid back and detached to portray Spike. Suppose he would be able to handle the action though.

As for being so dismissive of the Bruce Lee comment, Spike was based on Bruce Lee and Lupin III, so it's not a huge leap.

Influenced by, not based on. And let's not forget who Neo's character was also influenced by. They both did, at pivotal cool moments, the same famous bruce lee move, the leg balance, from Enter the Dragon.

So, if you think the Matrix was miscast(and based on your logic, you do think that), I get your argument, maybe Jackie Chan would be a better Neo/Spike for you, though I do not think I am ready to see an asian in white face.

I stand by my comment, Bruce Lee would be a bad choice in casting, were he still alive, at his peak, or old, either way. We can just agree to disagree.
