Netflix didn't send Kevin yet, so we Redboxed American Hustle. 30 minutes in the boyfriend says "I thought this was supposed to be funny?" and later told me that's around when he was ready to quit on it. I found it his sister and her bf also quit on it when they watched it so, I guess it runs in the family.
I thought it was good and the funny bits, while few and far between, were pretty damn funny. But I didn't care for the ending. *spoiler* Too neat. |

Against my better judgement, I'm going to see Godzilla (in 3D) on Friday.

The Mosquito Coast - Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, River Phoenix.
Was prompted to give it another spin after chatting with a colleague about Louis Theroux who does those BBC docos on wierd Americans. My colleague mentioned that Louis Theroux is the nephew of author Paul Theroux who penned the novel The Mosquito Coast. I still regard it as perhaps Harrison Ford's finest cinematic performance. |

Cheap Thrills - I enjoyed it. It's about these two old friends that are given these "dares" for money that get crazier as the night goes on. It's definitely a dark comedy with some disturbing stuff thrown in. A predicable ending though. 3/5

Not sure where I heard this (perhaps on KaTG?), but it's untrue that Godzilla shows up in the last few minutes; he was around for the better part of 45 minutes (in a 2-hr movie). There were other monsters to see from the get-go. |

Three Days Of The Condor.
A Redford classic. Made me appreciate the spy genre from an early age. Also - The Conversation (Gene Hackman). This is basically Enemy of the State in the 1970's. Worth a look for a young Harrison Ford who plays a homosexual assassin. It is a nastily brilliant performance. Last edited by Dean from Australia; 06-05-2014 at 08:17 AM. |
