What makes a person a douche-bag?

1. Wear stupid tee shirts with funny sayings. (FBI "female body inspector", I love strippers)
2. Have ever worn a blue tooth headset.
3. Gone to a play and it wasn't a valentines, anniversary, birthday, or christmas present.
4. Go tanning in a tanning salon and your not preparing for a trip
5. Don't drink beer because you don't like the tast or it fills you up.

I think the tribal/chinese lettering tattoos are a good sign. Also, white hats and wearing shorts in the winter.

Yeah, but it's like a mental illness. If you go read the DSM IV, you'll have or at least have had nearly every symptom in the book, but the issue is whether or not it gets so extreme that it interferes with your life in a adverse and pervasive manner.
