Where I Drink

The Wheatsheaf Hotel, Mile End (Thebarton) South Australia. A really old Pub dating back to the mid 1800s which carries with it no airs or graces but serves a wonderful variety of locally brewed beers and has a vibrant live music scene. Not a poker machine in sight and no big screen TV's blasting shit out into the front bar and drowning out the good conversation.

I drop by for a couple pints at least once a week and when I'm in the shit, twice a week.

Jade and the girls work behind the bar and what they don't know about good beer isn't worth knowing.

Sitting on my fucking couch, staring at the computer. OF COURSE.

Actually my favorite watering hole is this bar in my 'hood, the Bye 'n Bye, which sports an enormous oil painting of Evel Knievel on one wall. They serve a house-infused beet tequila cocktail which has gotten the best of me on more than one occasion, as well as a sweet fuschia-colored mix served in a quart jar (we call that one the Super Saver). Two outdoor patios, multiple rooms, yet comfy and homey and swank. I love this place.

But yeah. Drinkin' at home. Alone. That's the way to go.

I never took a photo of my pub but all South Auckland watering holes are pretty much the same.

I don't really have just one place, it depends on my mood and what's going on at which place. Within 10 blocks of my house I have 12 bars.

I suppose it's no fun without pictures. This place has bands playing almost nightly, and once or twice a month standup comedy. I go here two or three times a month.

Harry's Bar & Tables in Westport. Great patio, great martinis, and always the hook up for the service-industry crowd. Plus yummy food and the kitchen is open til 2 AM!
