God did create a female deity and her name is Oprah Winfery.
The serious reason though is that the religious authorities wouldn't have listened to a woman. They barely listened to Jesus. Jesus' mission was to tell people about a better way of life, die for our sins and raise three days later. And yes when the whole word has had a chance to accept him he will come back for us. |

In pre-Catholic Christianity the Holy Ghost was also known as "Sophia" which was the embodiment of wisdom and represented the female aspects of God. That specific tradition was marginalized with Catholicism, however the feminine symbol of God still exists in Catholicism with Mary the mother of Christ. In Gnostic Christianity Norea, Zoe, and probably several others I'm forgetting also represent aspects of the divine feminine.
In Marcionite and Gnostic Christianity (pre-Catholic) women had equal status as men and were also priests. The misogynist writings in II Timothy were a proto-catholic forgery that was likely written specifically to counter Marcionites. (All the pastorals are generally considered forgeries by scholars, and were probably written to counter Marcion, who was the first to canonize the genuine letters of Paul). If you turn the ichthus fish symbol (the one you see on cars and jewelry) sideways it looks like a vagina. Fish were a symbol of "Gnosis" or spiritual knowledge/wisdom. Again Sophia, the feminine symbol of God, was also the manifestation of divine wisdom. Here is an article that talks a little about how that symbol was appropriated from earlier religions: http://www.godlessgeeks.com/LINKS/fish_symbol.htm There is also the Gospel of Mary which basically declares that women have the authority to be priests: http://reluctant-messenger.com/gospel-magdalene.htm I'm not familiar with misogynist writings in the Old Testament but Christianity was largely a rejection of Judaism. When Judas spilled his bowels on a Jewish cemetery I'm told it symbolized a curse on Judaism. When Christ says in the Gospel of John "All who came before me were as thieves and robbers," and "No one comes to the Father but through me," this was more than likely a complete rejection of Judaism and a declaration that YHWH was a false god, considering that the Gospel of John is the only Gnostic text to make official canon. I'm told Nassene Gnostics, who were the first to use the Gospel of John, claimed Mary Magdalene wrote the text herself, and passed it onto them, making her the disciple that Christ "loved the most." She was known to some Gnostics as "apostola apostolorum," or apostle to the apostles. Also if God had a daughter and not a son, then crybabies would probably say that God was sexist against men. Christ and Sophia/Mary are both symbols of the Godhead, both embodying masculine and feminine aspects of God, which are mirrored in humanity, which was/is considered to be created in the image of God. If you want to consider Christianity sexist then knock yourself out :P However it isn't accurate if you consider the history of the religion or the whole spectrum of Christianity. Christianity isn't and never was a monolithic religion.
