Guys, I just wanted to say thanks again for your advice and words of encouragement, you've been a real help when I wasn't sure which way to turn.

Earlier this week as I was driving home from work in London I received a call from home, it was a Paramedic telling me that my wife had taken an overdose and was being taken to hospital. She drank a bottle of wine and took all the anti-depressants she had, fortunately there weren't enough of them to do any lasting damage and she was allowed to come home after about 6 hours.

That event seems to have actually had a positive effect; she had a very positive counselling session with a doctor the next day and we are going together for a session on Wednesday. The doctor said that it was important for her to stop drinking as this tends to be a trigger for destructive behaviour when she is feeling low anyway, he prescribed valium in the short term and that seems to have helped. She hasn't had any alcohol since she took the pills last week.

We have a very long way to go to sort our issues out, and it's too early to even think about what we may be able to salvage, but our friendship has stayed strong despite everything.

So, thanks for your words, they were a great help to me and also to my wife as I suggested she read the thread too. She says that some of you (Junkenstien in particular) seem to completely understand what she's dealing with and she's found it helpful to read your comments.

Thanks

Steve

It didn't work out.

We split up a few months ago and i'm now living on my own in an apartment in the same town. We are both seeing other people (probably a mistake on my part really) and she seems to be coping with life much better than she was.

We have stayed friends but I admit that my jealousy is a threat to that.
