The Internet cannot be censored for the simple fact that it is an International entity. What might be illegal in the USA might not be in Sweden and Catguh could easily be hosted there. At the very least shows could be released via bittorrent and shared by the listeners, to the listeners.
Additionally, downloading episodes requires effort. If I'm watching Barney with some kids and the cable company sends Midget Goatse Gangbang 6 instead, then I've been misled and through no fault of my own this "obscene" material was put in front of us all. In order to listen to Keith and Chemda a person must intentionally go to the site, download the file and click play.

First off NewsBusters is a right wing conservative site. Also known as a Republican site. Anything on there will be against Democrats. Even before the election was over there was talk of the fairness doctrine. The only problem is that it is only talked about by Conservative TV and Radio hosts. Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and all of their little followers are the ones talking about it. No Democrat that matters is talking about it. It's not going to happen. It would be a stupid idea and the Democrats know it.
At the end of June of last year this came out when Obama was still running for president: The Illinois senator’s top aide said the issue continues to be used as a distraction from more pressing media business. "Sen. Obama does not support reimposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters," press secretary Michael Ortiz said in an e-mail late Wednesday. "He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible," Ortiz added. "That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets." Quit reading and listening to conservative websites and shows. They care more about ratings than the truth. The last eight years should have taught you that. This thread is fucking retarded. You are fucking retarded for asking the question. Pull your head out of your ass and poke around for some real information before you ask dumb questions. You owe everyone here an apology.

And moving forward: Stabenow is a nutter, she will make a big show of it cause some show she liked got canceled and she's too stupid to do something like help the station get funding to come back online. Beyond that the fairness doctrine really doesn't have anywhere near enough steam to make any headway. Ars Technica did a good write up on the current state of the Fairness Doctrine. eeek-fairness-doctrine They pretty much summed it up as the FCC chair person is against it, Obama is against it and the general public could give a crap. A better way to do it: If you are someone who wants to see more balance in the major media it would make more sense to rollback the 2003 fcc deregulation of media mergers that allowed single media conglomerates to buy multiple radio stations, newspapers and tv stations in a single market. This would foster natural competition between stations and lead to more diversity in coverage. Plus clear channel wouldn't run every radio station in town remotely and hose everybody during emergencies.

There's a difference between strongly disagreeing and being fucking sick and tired of hearing the same old lies and bullshit being spewed forth by the right wing. Eight years. Eight long and horrible mother fucking years we had to sit here and watch them take this country to it's knees. And now that it's over we still have to listen to this bullshit? I sick of hearing shit from the likes of Rush Limbaugh who says he "Hopes Obama fails" If he fails, then we as a country are fucked. The most popular Right wing asshole says things about the fairness doctrine along with a ton of other lies and is hoping that more Americans are out of work and things get worse so that they can win back political positions. Get this straight. REPUBLICANS DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT YOU (unless you're a millionaire) So if I go to my favorite web site and see something incredibly stupid and I write something that "offends" you then you need to pull up your big girl panties and get over it. Offensive? Hostile? Do you even listen to the show? |

I do listen to the show and because I am level headed and willing to discuss things I am one of the only people that ever got Keith to move an inch on his justice. |

Oh those crazy liberals with their long history of wanting to censor what people can and can't say. Why I remember the Liberal crusades to censor the likes of 2 Live Crew and N.W.A. Charlton Heston reading the lyrics to rap songs really got me behind those cranky liberal democrats who have never supported freedom of speech. Or freedom of anything, for that matter. |

I do hope that those of you who consider yourselves liberal today and have spent at least some time of the past 8 years bemoaning the evil-ness of Bush and Company enjoy every single attack your boy and his merry band of idiots get as long as there is a democrat in the white house. (think that one through, you'll get the entire point) Let's start with the "Taxes? We don't pay no stinkin' taxes!" bunch. But of course, that wouldn't provide a "fair counterpoint" to the last 8 years would it? I think that's called stooping to their level. |
