As the world turns...

Interesting article on the power that the iPod, and like devices, will have against traditional and satellite radio:

That being said, I do not have car but I haven't listened to radio since I got my first mp3 player. That's six or seven years now. How the fuck is Sirius going to pay Howard Stern now?

Pardon the ignorance here. but is satellite radio the same thing as digital radio here in the UK?

You have to buy a new radio for digital stations, but there's no subscription charge.

I imagine it's the same format, except here in the states there are two providers (XM and Sirius) which both offer their own recievers and charge subscription fees.

I don't know about that. XM and Sirius are satellite based, so you could take your player to buttfuck nowhere and be able to listen (supposedly).

If it's the same as TV, then digital and satellite aren't the same. I need a special box to watch digital stations, but it's not the same thing as having a satellite dish on the side or top of my house.

You have to buy a new radio and pay a monthly fee of say $13. That's about seven pounds sterling or quid, as you call it.

Nice avatar. You really have some good depth going there. Any further, though, and you'll have to visit Dr. Dan with a brain injury.
