It's like emotional porn. That's not the right way to word it, but to me The Passion of the Christ was the same way. You like Jesus? Well instead of covering his life and important teachings, let's watch the Romans flay him alive. It will make you a better person. And all that shit.

Nicolas Cage (get the spelling right) is a fuckin' great actor and I trust him and, to a lesser extent Oliver Stone to do a decent job. If can come close to Flight 93 it will do well, although it looks as if it will have slightly more a fictional element.

Nic Cage has a 'tache in the film because his character is a real person, John Mcloughlin (below). He was the last person pulled alive from the WTC.
Oh shit, I hope I dittn't ruin the end of the movie for anyone...

I love Nicholas Cage, but I don't trust Oliver Stone to handle this with any degree of sensitivity. Oliver Stone is anything but subtle and he always has an agenda. Paul Greengrass took great pains to make United 93 as politically-neutral and agenda-free as possible. Oliver Stone doesn't have that ability.

I think the movie is gonna be pretty good...Nick Cage is a pretty good actor (I think). I loved him in Gone in 60 Seconds.

This may make an inordinate amount of people hate me, but when the WTC blew up I was not that affected. Granted I live across the country, but almost everyone I knew was hugely affected. It's not that I do not care (I do, they were people) I just thought that in the grand scheme of the world it had to happen to the US eventually. Look at Ireland or Israel/Palestine or Sudan or Sierra Leone and see the shit that happens to them every damn day. Those people have more tragedy in a month than we have had in the five years since it happened, yet we still can't get over it. It just opened up another way for Americans to hate foreigners(did we ever distrust anyone as much as we don't trust arabs now?), and as a result other countries think we are overreactive whiners.

DO NOT misunderstand me: I do not think we DESERVED the attack; I do not think all those people dying is trivial; I am not ashamed to live in the US. I do think that we as Americans think too much of ourselves and ignore (to some degree) other people getting bullied but act the fucking fool when anyone picks on us. One last point before you all post that I hate America: People love to say, "never forget," and it disturbs me. I do not think we should literally forget what happened from an historical standpoint, we need to learn from what came before. But when people say it it has a different connotation, and I think Keith said it best in a past episode: "Never forget. Stay Racist."

And by the way, I don't think I will see this movie, not because it is too soon, but because I have become desensitized to everything having to do with September 11th. When you are constantly bombarded with one thing for five years it becomes trivialized; this is true with any issue. Because the US could not stop bringing up September 11th constantly for years I think it has become cliche, and that is a sad thing to make cliche, Americans. But Nicholas Cage kicks ass, just watch Adaptation.

Wow, cubby, big bull balls to you for saying stuff that might piss a lot of people off. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt...I think I agree with you when you say "Never forget" has become overused and cliche. I believe that our politics in the US have become singularly focused since that day. And I blame the current administration, but I also acknowledge that the Dems have done their fair share of jingoistic flag-waving. That's what I'm talking about when I say I don't think Oliver Stone can make this movie without inserting his own liberal point-of-view onto those terrible events. Oliver Stone is a born exploiter. And I say that as a card-carrying liberal.

I think Oliver Stone will do a good job, seeing as he's from NY. And I agree with Cubby, but I was living in NY at the time. So my opinion is more like.. If you weren't there, you don't get it, and have no opinion. So shush. I watched Oklahoma bombing on TV years prior, and I thout it was fucked, but I wasn't affected.

I won't see the movie, because it's too soon for me.. I don't know that I ever want to see a 9/11 movie. "Never Forget".. yah its cliche and I'm tired of it.. when I think of 9/11 I think of the Village Voice cover pic the week after.. "Wish you were here" is more of the sentiment I feel..

That's a pretty harsh opinion. That's like denying someone their grief. I spent the week after that under a dark cloud. I watched the news every free moment. On the one-year anniversary, again I was in a blue funk. I watched those people who formed spontaneous mourning circles and felt for them. Those trajedies hit me very hard. To say that I don't have a right to feel and have an opinion on the trajedies because I was in Dallas is pretty fucked.

That's probably the best and least exploitative piece of art I've ever seen regarding the world trade center. Kudos to you, Village Voice.
