XO - Toronto Vs.. New York

Long ass episode but it's worth it.

I love how McNally manages to make every XO episode to sound like his swan song. He gives 110% and at the end i always feel weirdly connected to him.

This episode, also is incredibly personal and yet i completely felt in synch with him and his mood(s) for the whole 2h and a half. His anger, his peace,, his raw love for life, his sensitivity, can be perfectly detached from the whole context of an outspoken young canadian that grows and discovers his true self through hios journeys, and put in my life.

He can be critcized for whatever you want, but the man helps healing and makes people feel much less weird and hopeless, only by saying that even the shittiest moments can be overcome.

And that even if for a bit you're down and screaming at garbage, rats and graffitis, you could always find yourself back.

XO - An audio show by Keith McNally, in the style of This American Life - KeithCourage.com

I have recently re-discovered some more McNally podcasts (I Have a Ham Radio). This new XO sounds very interesting though so I'll definitely have to check it out! Thanks Junk!

Naw. McNally just records himself talking then puts songs in later. It's quite awesome!

Oh that's the name of the podcast...haha. I thought you were saying you had a ham radio, and then I was even more confused since I didn't see how you'd get podcasts on it...lol

I liked the episode. I am hoping this means the end of the New York hating - Not cause I like New York but just because I want McNally to be free of his pain/burden.

Haha, that'd be nice, right? But the other day I was reading about how the province of Alberta is virtually rat free, and instead of being proud of them, I thought of New York. And what I thought was, "You dumb bastards."

Ever thought that Alberta could've shipped their rats to NY? Hmm?

It's really pretty crazy -- Apparently rats didn't always coat north america. It was a (relatively) recent spread. So back in the 50s, when rats first started getting to the border of Alberta, they started an aggressive campaign to keep them out.

Because of the fairly sparse population and terrible winters, they pulled it off. You can't even buy rats in pet stores. Last year they found some rats in the sewers, so it might be slightly buckling. But for over 50 years -- no rats. Fucking amazing.
