We have some customs here around marriage but they are way less and not so strict. Hearing about your customs and how things suppose to be is always a trip. I didn’t get an engagement ring at all, but because it’s not really a thing here no one even asked about it, I’m sure some people do it, but for example none of my friends did.

In the end, when people enjoy this kind of stuff, great. But I’m glad we have less pressure here about it.

The area I live in isn’t quite as expensive as New York, especially for renters but for buying is still pretty bad. A nice 1 family home in good condition in my neighborhood ( nothing luxurious, maybe 2000 sf and a nice outdoor area) goes for slightly under 1 million dollars, so it’s still very expensive .
