That’s a bit extreme, don’t you think?
You remind me of my brother. He said something similar to me in passing when I mentioned wanting to househack. I still don’t get it. Just this week, he was telling me about this new job he was feeling conflicted about. He went on to describe the atmosphere being healthy and low pressure, his teammates being cool and helpful, and the company encouraging things he appreciates like mediation and well-being. I’m listening to him talk trying to figure out where the conflict is, but I couldn’t find it, so I ask. He explains it’s a sales job. Still confused, I remind him he’s really good at public speaking, his background in debate, some activism he’s done, and how he’s super personable and makes friends at the drop of a hat, how I could see him being really good at this, etc. He goes to say he feels sales is overtly capitalistic and he doesn’t like the idea of working in sales, seeing as it’s predatory. He states he conflicted at the commission-based nature of the job. Ok, now I’m kind of exasperated in my head, bc I see how he’s psyching himself out with this capitalism is bad thing schtick again, which I get, but let’s face it’s the system we live in?? Meanwhile, he has loans, debt and bills like the rest of us, but this mentality doesn’t even allow him to enjoy that he finally found a job in a shitty market after some recent losses. A job that he may be really good at, at a company he admits he likes! How is making himself feel bad about capitalism while at the same time needing it to survive healthy? How is calling someone scum for working within a system we all share, like a landlord, fair or productive? |

![]() I don’t find the sales analogy very similar at all for what it’s worth. I do see where he is coming from if he feels he is having to be manipulative/dishonest in his daily work. It seems more an integrity issue than some capitalism stance, but you know your brother better than I do. If your “life hack” takes advantage of a basic human need and turns it for profit, I do see participation in such a system as a LITTLE scummy. I know there are great and fair “land lords” (can we admit that title isn’t helping the cause?!) out there, and at the end of the day they perpetuate a system that turns a wild profit (Apia’s whole original point) on the backs of working people’s labor while contributing little outside of simple land ownership. On top of that, let’s not ignore the larger systematic issues like investment companies, air bnb, or wealthy individuals buying and owning obscene amounts of land, creating artificial scarcity that both drives rent prices up and reduces available home supply, all of which makes it ever harder for people to make the jump from renting to owning. Yes we all live in the system, doesn’t mean it’s good, should be celebrated, or that we can’t still make criticisms where we see fit. I think what prompted my response was the joking, lifehack-y way she presented it. I didn’t really find it all that funny considering the above, and made my own joke. I see your point, hope you see mine ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Seems like I finally made it.
Also good to hear in the week when I'm helping my renter who is chronicly ill and being bullied by her neighbors for medical weed smoking because of her broken back. They tried to make be throw her out and I told them to shut up. I spend so much time I don't really have on this. I was even in the trial with her for support. They wanted her to only smoke indoors but she didnt want that, so i said if this would be the result, i would forbid it. So this suggestion was dead immediately. Also we didnt raise her rent even that we could. And its not called landlord here. It's called Vermieter, meaning the one who rents out. So she now thinks that I'm an angel and that Jesus send me because they were awful to her for years and this was the first time she felt strong enough to stand up for herself. ( I don't know about that Jesus part) But sure. Sorry, I’m still the best landlord you probably ever heard about. I can’t help myself. The renter, Iris is a 50 something small lady who had a terrible accident on a horse 20 years ago where she nearly died and can walk but has terrible chronic pain. And now you might think, is Apia lying? I researched a patient Organisation for cannabis pain patients for her, called them and asked if they had suggestions how to deal with those bullies. I gave Iris the number, and now she talked to them several times and it gave her strength, she said. They wrote an article about this case. https://presseverteiler.prnews24.com...schaftsstreit/ Here you can see Iris from behind, I took the picutre.
