So happy for you dude, getting into the plumbers union was the best thing I ever did. Be willing to learn and ask questions be helpful. You'll go far.

As far as drug testing in my experience, some companies make you do a piss test before getting hired on. Definitely if you're working a public works job, prison, military base, etc. And it's just once during onboarding. Only time you'd get tested again is if you're visibly fucked up or get hurt on the job.
