Being the "bitch" bartender has its perks too, especially when you're finally nice to someone. All of a sudden they feel special because they were the one you were nice to.

But this is one of those personality traits you either have or don't, right? I'd like to think that I'm a genuinly nice person that can be a bitch when I need to be, but sometimes that doesn't seem to work in my best interest (being nice). I'm a damn hard worker, I've been working in restaurants for ten years, and I'm not taking too kindly to being picked on because I'm nice. Why does it suck so bad to be nice?

Being nice and giving people the benefit of the doubt is not a bad thing. But no one can, or should expect you to just sit there and take when people are being shitty to you. It is okay to stand up for yourself. I think the term "bitch" is being used a bit loosely here. It is more of a means of treating people as they treat you. There is nothing wrong with that.
