I completely agree with you D

I found myself quite frustrated with chemda's obstinance during this debate, she just seemed so condescending in her unwillingness to consider Ray's point of view.

It reminded me of Keith's argument about the N-word and being called a nerd but in this case when Keith was arguing an unpopular view there a massive amount of depth to his argument that was lost on alot of people including chemda.
I still disagree with keith about that discussion because i think theres a timeframe relevance factor that is needed to define his point as i couldnt see one.

I guess what im trying to say is that when arguing the side of an unpopular view kieth comes across misunderstood and funny but chemda comes across as condescending and naive.

I suppose i'll have to clarify this now that ive expressed an adverse opinion, Im not a hater it was just this part of the episode irked me.

re: Ice Cube - nothing on Wikipedia about any arrests. Looks like he was a bit of a nerd as a kid, so I'm guessing all his gangsta rappin' is just show. He became a Nation of Islam member, so his lyrics are racist and a bit crazy, but can't find any reference to his being arrested or charged with any crimes on Google...

I think the politicians oppose gay marriage for a few reasons. Firstly, those in the flyover states hate the idea, and conservative politicians use this as a wedge issue to get their more conservative constituents out to the polls on voting day. This allows them to say that they believe in the "Sanctity of Marriage" at press conferences in between backseat blowjobs from their mistresses.

Secondly, big business doesn't want to have to offer the benefits they extend to their married straight employees to their gay employees, and they have a huge amount of sway with politicians individually and through collective organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Seems to me that the majority of politicians who take a public stand on this issue are Republicans, it's a very safe stance to take within their party. Democrats are mostly quiet about the issue for the same reasons, they get money and votes from the same businesses, organizations and people as the Republicans so they will rarely take a public stance in favor of gay marriage. The only exception I can think of is when they are in state or local positions in 'safe' areas like San Francisco or Massachusetts.

...And then there's Iowa, somehow they made gay marriage legal and they're most definitely not a 'safe' area, being all rural and Republicany and stuff. The difference there was that private citizens filed suit against the state for not allowing it, and the courts ultimately made it legal. I'm sure it was a banner day for the Iowa Republican party, because now they can campaign on reversing this and get people to the polls in droves.

Ice Cube and Ice T seem really harmless; I don't believe either did any sort of serious crime. In fact, I can't ever really consider Ice T a gangster of any sort after seeing him in Breakin'. It's funny to see the guy who rapped about cop killing in a later song rap about breakdance competitions on the dance floor. That movie killed any cred he might try to build, in my opinion.

Ray is great, but his gay marriage argument is positively retarded.

There is no great corporate conspiracy to prevent gay marriage to avoid paying for health insurance. As of last year, 83% of Fortune 100 companies go OUT OF THEIR WAY to provide domestic partner benefits to the gays.

HRC | Domestic Partner Benefits

They don't have to -- they choose to. Money is not the issue.

Conservatives generally are against gay marriage because "gays, guns and God" (and immigrants) are the wedge issues to rile up the poor/uneducated who, if they were voting economics, would be hardcore Democrats. Take disenfranchised poor white Southern people, give them a minority to hate, and they suddenly feel empowered/superior (this type of thing has happened time and time again through history, hello Germany). Add religion into the mix, and there is your recipe for gay marriage opposition. "Big business" conservatives only care about money -- they could not care less about social issues -- but they use the social issues to get working class folks on their side.

Instead of speculating whether Ice Cube, or Ice T, killed anyone... leave the answer to the experts.

The producers and or executives of these shows... If these guys were really involved in Federal crimes, and have never been prosecuted for such, then what movie or TV series would ever consider their involvement?

If you're making a multi-million Dollar picture you probably don't want to have a star who might go away for a decade or two.

Prolly not. Relax, it's a persona, I'm sure they are a hoot at a party... and not the stabby or shooty kind of hoot...

I highly doubt that Ice Cube ever killed anyone, Ice T may have or at least shot/stabbed someone at some point. Ice Cube is basically just a guy from a rough place, he's never claimed gang affiliation. If you look into his background you find some pretty interesting stuff, he went to school for architectural drafting. While he may be a badass guy and someone I'd never fuck with, he's not quite a gangster.
