Another one of those sky rocket my mood in the morning shows. By the end of the call with scat I was in tears laughing while driving. I think you guys might get me killed some day.
As a recent listener of old shows I can say with certainty that at least up to show 658 Keith never came close to as hateful as some of those tweets are. That's despite that he used to toe the line of racism a lot closer then he does now. In fact in one I listened to recently, Chemda describes perfectly how he has this perfect craft of being just enough of an asshole without crossing the line. So I agree with Keith especially because freedom of speech protects Anthony from going to jail. In the workplace, you don't have total freedom of speech if you want to keep your job. And as an entertainer, twitter is part of his workplace.

You disagree with me so you bring my profession up in a public forum and attack me personally?
For all of my employer's evils, I work in a safe, friendly environment. My free will to work with whom I choose trumps your desire to be a racist asshole. I likewise choose to be friends with people who don't have evil horseshit in their hearts. As far as I know (prove me wrong) there isn't a nation in the world where you're allowed to say anything you want without affecting your employment or business relationships. This fantasy world where you can endlessly spout off hateful shit without repercussion does not exist unless you wrap yourself in anonymity. |

Here too every summer at least one person leaves a kid in the car to die while the parent is playing pachinko. We used to live near a pachinko parlor and a few times, at night, I would bike through the parking lot (a shortcut) and on more than one occasion I saw a kid sitting in a dark car waiting for mom or dad.
A string to remind you that your kid is in the car? Anyone who needs to buy such a device should have a mandated visit from social services! |

Random assortment of Podcasts, and the odd book here and there. The rest I just make up, as long as I say it with a straight face, people will believe/agree.
The Native American/Peyote thing I heard on another podcast. The people talking about it seemed earnest enough for me. People who want to believe the "slippery slope" argument will agree with what I wrote. People who don't will think I'm full of shit. Neither side will actually look into it for themselves. Facts and citing your work rarely matter. People just believe shit that sounds right to them, or makes their life most convenient. Last edited by invader; 07-16-2014 at 09:14 AM. |

Hate speech:
In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group. If what Anthony said falls under the above definition of hate speech it is not free speech, it is hate speech. Personally I'd say his tweets clearly fall under that definition but maybe I'm just being goofy. |

In the episode Chemda said if all speech isn't allowed then pro gay speech could have been banned and Keith brushed it off. I think she's right, if USA didn't have such strong free speech laws don't you think 10-20 years ago the govt would have been banning gay books like Singapore is apparently doing: nypost.com/2014/07/13/singapore-bans-book-based-on-central-park-zoos-gay-penguins |

Regarding Ryan Block/Veronica Belmont vs Comcast
The Comcast rep will be fired, but he is just a sacrificial lamb - it won't be written down in any training manuals or internal memos (if they are smart), but the team that handles cancellations (they more than likely have a team that does nothing else) is told by Comcast higher-ups to do whatever it takes to keep customers - annoy, lie, procrastinate etc.
Sure they will denounce him publicly and make some token admissions to try and calm the press and their remaining customers down, but it will mostly be for show - they are a monopoly in a lot of places, so why give a fuck? Remember when he said "I'll can give $100 discount on your monthly bill" - they still make a profit even after doing that! The Comcast reps salary is also more than likely tied too the number of cancellations he "allows" to slip through - he had no issue with them turning in their modem/router in a Comcast store and cancelling there, because that won't effect his salary in any way, so he couldn't give a fuck about that - but since he can't hang up (that's monitored), his best option is to annoy the customer until they hang up and call another service rep, cancel in one of the stores or just give up on the cancellation altogether. |
