Well...maybe I let my bias affect the listening experience. Am I really the only one who was surprised at how less-than-stellar Jordan was?

Kids that grow up in the country are always going to be taught gun safety because learning how to hunt is a huge part of that culture.

Obviously, fully automatic weapons are big problem and whoever puts one of these types of guns in the hands of a child deserves getting shot.

I agree. The problem is that kids can't comprehend how serious a loaded weapon really is. They think they're invincible. It isn't until a deadly accident takes place that they get a dose of reality. Which leads me to...

... and then the kid is fucked-up for life because they killed someone. Responsibility still sits with the adult (even if they DO deserve to be shot for giving a kid access to a fully automatic weapon).

The real problem is that we have to treat adults like they're going to be an adult about these things. But they're often just as stupid as their kid.

I don't think a child should handle a gun without adult supervision. I got a BB rifle for my 12th birthday, my dad thought it would give me practice before I handled the real thing. I shot at a target in our garage several times and took it to my grandfathers farm to try to shoot birds. I'm 44 and have yet to go hunting or target shooting with a real gun. If kids were taught respect for guns then it might cut down on accidents.

the kids who get taken to hunt do. watching something die leaves an impression.

that being said, there's no fucking reason for a 7 year old to have an automatic weapon. she's not even physically big enough to handle it and there's no sporting reason to have it in her hand.

As tragic as the gun range story is, at least it has a happy ending!

After 9-year-old fatally shoots instructor with an Uzi, gun range raises age minimum to 12
