I don't need my children bullied.
That's of no use for me. I can let them do all the house work so that they can have something to suffer from AND we will have a clean house.

Chemda's app idea is genius. I vote for SadieHawkins.com or DutchTreat.com

Let me know if you need someone to make it decentralised and work with Bitcoin and Tor.

Great show. Josh is hilarious and thought provoking. The dilemma of the easy life is a storied one.

I think it was Dan Carlin had a great story in Wrath of the Khans. IIRC, he talked about a cycle of Steppe warriors slaying and raping their way into power before acquiring wealth and raising decadent children who would later be slain and raped by steppe warriors raised in the hard nomadic life.

Those "most popular" by state apps are marketing bullshit. Good for them. I wish I'd thought of it, but you can get any answer you want by how you process the data. They probably have a whole bunch of sparse boolean vectors for every customer.

Here are the distance functions provided by SciPy for just boolean vectors:

yule(u, v) Computes the Yule dissimilarity between two boolean 1-D arrays.
They probably go further, though, and apply multiple correspondence analysis on selected datasets. This allows enough freedom that they can "dial the knobs" until they get answers that will go viral.

As usual, there's an xkcd:

They knew a state hating string cheese would go viral?

It's probably even simpler than that. Who had even heard of the app before this show? So if they had 12 people in Illinois use the app, and 3 of those people swiped on String Cheese, it becomes "People in Illinois HATE string cheese more than anything else!"

It's pretty telling that absolutely nothing is repeated in any 2 states.

It's not ok for me to harm the bully.
But I would very much support my child to hit the bully. This is much better. I can't be there all the time. The bully needs to learn that my child can protect itself.

I would have gotten in trouble if I came home from school and said someone hit me, without a followup story of how I beat their ass and am now suspended.

The rule was always "Never hit first. But you better defend yourself"

I was always taller and more athletic looking than everyone else (including the boys until high school) so it was never something I had to do.

You gotta be more specific.

"I'd support my child..."

C'mon now!
