When I was born we lived with my grandpartents, because my parents had no apartment. We had a kitchen and 3 small rooms for 6 people. We had no bathroom, one toilet in the hall was shared with the neighbors.
We shared bath water because we had no warm water and had to heat it on a wood oven. At least 3 people bathed in the same water. At school lots of parents couldn’t even afford milk, so there was a program run by the state for the kids to get one Glas of milk a day for free for some nutrition. Poor enough?

Love Bonnie! She's always a great guest.
I have to disagree with her characterization of the response to the Aziz Ansari issue, though. Everyone I read, including things written by feminists, had a much more nuanced take on it, and took into consideration the fact that this was an example of a bad sexual experience. They also used that as a launching point to start a conversation about how common that can be - that two people are not on the same page, that women are often socialized into not vocalizing their discomfort, that some men aren't picking up the woman's physical cues that she is uncomfortable with what's going on, etc. In my opinion, there was a really great conversation started after that story came out, about how we could apply that scenario to improving the way dating hookups go down.

Although, they would follow this up with “we walked to school, up hill, both ways.” Great Depression era Americans. Always trying to one-up the Polish. Unbelievable. |
