if the guys were embarrassed it was because they sensed the guys giving the presentation were embarassed about something and they realized there was some joke they weren't understanding. they were probably embarrassed by their own poor grasp of english and the head guy left to avoid further embarrassment in front of his colleagues.

the japanese don't understand that we called them nips during wwII and if you explained it they wouldn't find it offensive. they're from nippon so you call them nips. would an american be offended if you learned the japanese called us "ams" during wwII ? not really.

to think they were offended by the word nips projects on them a cultural political correctness that doesn't exist in japan.
