It's 12 kinds of awesome that the KATG posse will be staying at Pitman Hall, where I lived for my first 2 years of university. Let me tell you, that place is indestructible. I'm pretty sure there isn't a flammable item in the entire building.
A few tips for everyone to maximize their enjoyment and minimize their chances of getting thrown out or savagely beaten. 1. If you want to smoke weed, go outside to do it. You won't get arrested for smoking a fatty anywhere outside in Toronto, but if you fire up a blunt in Pitman, they'll probably throw you out. 2. Alcohol isn't allowed in the public areas of the residence floors, so congregate in the rooms to pound brews. 3. Toronto is safer than most major cities but I still wouldn't advise going anywhere in downtown Toronto by yourself at night. Just ask the 20 black dudes who swarmed me outside The Big Slice on the corner of Yonge and Gerrard back in 1994. 4. If it turns out that you end up staying on either the 6th or 9th floor, when you use one of the showers, think about the fact that I banged one freshman or another in that exact spot 10 years ago. OK, that last one was mostly for me. Hey, I'm married now, I have to relive past glories. Last edited by Scotty Ballgame; 06-14-2007 at 03:57 PM. |

Perhaps it's just because I have good parents, but every time I hear Chemda's point of view on dads it makes me cringe. Regardless of how her or Keith's dads were, I don't think that's enough reason to assume that most dads get to a point where they wish their kids weren't around/born. That's a pretty depressing point of view on fatherhood and men in general.
I think many people make up excuses for why their parents did what they did back in the day, and most people tend to believe their parents were doing their best (deuce, spooky, Keith, and Chemda have all said this.), but I think that our parents give us an idea of what is normal for all families too. I think that because Chemda grew up with middle-eastern parents in a western society she sees them as archetypes of all parents, and, as a result, has a very negative view of fathers in general. I know this is kind of going against my point by using a personal example, but when I was little my dad was like my best childhood friend. He would play legos with me for hours, have fake wrestling matches in the living room (He was always Andre the Giant), build forts with me out of blankets, come to every single school or sports event I was ever in, and read to me every night for almost ten years. I was a fucked-up kid, and with very few exceptions my dad was always on my side, trying to make me a better person, and any time he ever went so far as to yell at me, he came and apologized almost immediately and gave me a hug. When I was in college and he found out I smoked cigarettes - during a summer where I was working while living at home - he confronted me, offered to help me in any way he could, and went so far as to say if I ever needed something to help me quit (gum, patches, etc.) that he would pay for it to help me out. He didn't want my mom to worry about me, so he tried to keep it under wraps out of respect for me; he knew I couldn't stand how much I'd hurt her if she ever found out. To this day he still wants me around, wants to hang out with me, go have a beer together, and play computer games with me like we used to. I love my dad and I know that if I ever have kids of my own I'll try to be exactly like him because I can't imagine a way to be a better father. I guess my point is that my dad can't be the only one like that. I know how much william loves his kids, and spaceboy, and MichaelG, and many others. Dads aren't all shitheads. Dads aren't all playing mad scientist to experiment with their kids. Dads aren't all wondering why they didn't wear condoms. I'm not offended. It just makes me sad to think that if I never talked about my dad to anyone, so many people would just assume he's a dick. What a bummer.
