Subtitles or dubbing?

Or, you are like me and speak a lot of languages.

I think the nothing to hide movie is French. I admit that I would turn the subtitles on for support, because my French is only basic to medium.

I've watched a lot of subbing and dubbing and I don't really have a preference, although, with dubbing, I sometimes switch between the original language and the dub just to hear the actor's actual voices in my head.

With subtitles, I tend to focus more on the text than the visuals, which isn't ideal either. It's like going on a hike and being behind someone and watching their feet more than the scenery around you. You went on the walk and completed it, but the experience may not be as enriching because you're not taking in the scenery.

I do think a lot of people use subtitles as a crutch now instead of putting the volume up a little and trying to pay attention to the actual movie. They also use it as an excuse when they can't understand various accents. I get that watching TV and movies is supposed to be relaxing, but I do think some people can put more effort into actively listening to what they're watching. It's a skill that is useful in other parts of your life.

I watched Nothing To Hide on Netflix per Chemda's recommendation and it was really good. The drama was unexpected and captivating. The dubbing is great imo. I have to disconnect slightly when watching dubbed movies, can't concentrate on their mouths too much, I look at their eyes instead.

I picked dubbing in the poll because I can do work (accounting-mostly data entry) while watching it. Subtitles require 100% of my attention and I'm often not willing to give that to movies unless its been recommended to me.
