This "cluster" talk has me rolling. How are the tallest people who can see signs easier the worst with direction?

This episode simultaneously gave me so much peace of mind - cuz it finally came out!- and got me revved up like a roflcoptr. I could listen to this explanation of Andrea and Keith's (and everyone's brain) for another 2 hours.

I AM a homo so I'm kinda bad with directions. I'd say like 3 levels less terrible than Andrea and Keith. It took until I was in my late teens for me to get the grid system of most of Manhattan (but lets not pretend streets don't literally disappear, change names or converge and get eaten by other ones tho). Before that I would do some Mapquesting, and write notes that read "51st to 52nd, turn <-- 2 blocks, turn -->"

But anywhere else in this fucking town I use a cluster + name variable system. I know MOST of the cluster of downtown brooklyn but if I end up in a part I don't know I know most of the street names are still the same and if I keep walking toward some tall building that i recognize I'll end up in a familiar place.

Numbers are also more of memory game for me. if someone were to ask "What's 8x6?" I mostly only keep what a number times 10 or 5 is in my head. I'd get to 8x5 and just add 8. When combining bigger numbers in my head I just round everything to the nearest 10 or 100 and add/remove in the extra later.

FINALLY!

Somehow Bianca just gets hilariouser and hilariouser. Chemda's deliriously delighted reactions are so perfectly sympatico with my own it hurts! One of my most hyped entertainment things of 2020 is the first Last Week after April 15 and hearing how well Bianca did opening Keith's show.

And the cluster bit was utter genius from both Andrea and Keith. One of the best things I've ever heard.

It's so hard to understand how brains other than your own work, I'm sure you can learn a lot of things and get better but some things you are just talented for or not. #bornthisway

I have great sense of direction, always had. Made my way by public transport to Newark airport twice so far without any issues. Found my way to a subway station in the middle of the night in Brooklyn after being taken there by taxi before I had an iPhone. #katgweekShenanigans
Also how do you even find yourself to open doors in an airport? I don't think I remember ever touching a door handle in an airport that wasn't in the bathrooms.

Manhattan is so easy to me, pretty much no cities in Europe work on a grid system, I'm trained on complex street maps maybe?

I've got no talent for math or languages, really good at crafting though.

Wait ... the bit about accidentally finding himself in a behind-the-scenes zone of the airport was just a joke wasn't it? In post-9/11 world?

I mean ticket counters are before security so I'd believe Keith could have managed that?

Jesus Christ, a few years ago you couldn't even leave a suitcase near the taxi rank without a bomb disposal robot turning it into confetti, now randos can get into the ticket counters?!?

Did someone forget to never forget?

I'm shit with maps and names but when I get somewhere once I can get there again. When I went a huge out door museum/art gallery, I was trying desperately to figure out how to get to the cemetery exhibition at the far corner. But after a shuttle put me off somewhere in the middle and I ended up just walking north I gave up because from where I was I would get back to the exit right as the place was closing. I rarely know what the names of the streets my friends live on, I just now how to get there.

Manhattan really is a singular case where the numbers make sense. Tell me to go "north" in Queens where 33rd St is followed by 33rd Square and 33rd Place and I'll tell you to go fuck yourself.
