It’s exhausting being a government employee right now. So far I feel like my job is safe because I’m a social worker and we are already short staffed but the people making the decisions to fire people aren’t actually looking into what people actually do. As evidenced by them firing nuclear engineers and scientists and scrambling to rehire them when frankly they can make so much more money in the private sector. There’s a law where no government employee can make more than the president.

And they are going after everyone. My VA lost 40 people. One of the social workers I work closely with is in research which isn’t on the exception/critical list so every day she has to wonder if she’s going to get that email. And she’s pregnant with her second kid. And she’s a badass who has had multiple papers published in scholarly journals. It is fucking infuriating.

Now there is apparently an email waiting in my inbox where I have to send 5 things I accomplished in the last week to justify my job to Musk and friends. And if we don’t respond we could get fired. What a lot of people don’t realize is that government employees as of now still have rights-even probationary employees. When fired (NOT laid off) they have to give specific reasons beyond the vague “poor performance” that they’ve been saying. When Regan fired all of those air traffic controllers in 81, a lot of them appealed in court and got rehired 3 years later PLUS BACKPAY. Court cases cost the government money so he’s really increasing the deficit by doing this. And I’m sure he’ll blame the people suing to get their jobs back. I just want to concentrate on taking care of my elderly veterans.

Justin and I haven’t been able to sleep in the same bed the last 5 years because I have night terrors. I thrash, kick, punch and scream. Justin got hit the face several times and kicked. It sucks but he needs to be able to sleep safely.

Hang in there Littlp! Thank you for sharing, people need to hear what is actually happening and how it is affecting people. I keep reminding myself this is the first 100 days and he is trying to shock and awe us into bowing down to him. Sometimes you have to take one minute at a time. Focus on given them your night terrors

Thanks. I know that they are doing this to try to drive us to quit so they don’t have to pay as much. I’m not quitting-if they want to get rid of me they are going to have to fire me.

Also-I hate the environment our kids have had to deal with the last 20 years. My daughter is in kindergarten and had her first active shooter drill a few months ago and it was a terrifying experience for her. Now keep in mind she is 6 so likely not 100% accurate but the emotions she experience were-she said that suddenly red and blue lights came in as well as a siren. It scared her and then she was very confused about having to hid from “the monster with a gun”. She said her teacher covered her, which isn’t something teachers should have to do. She said she was very confused and also scared because of how loud it was and then dark. I fucking hate it.

She is already asking for a phone which seems insane. I really don’t want her on social media…it all worries me.

Holy shit what a scary time to be in! I would hate the idea of having to justify my job to some heartless prick who is having teenagers make decisions. I hope you all get to keep your jobs, what you do is gravely needed!

And that’s also scary that your daughter has to go through that! Have they thought about just giving her teacher a gun?
