Anybody looking for a near last-minute deal on a hotel for NYC, I have a nice lead.

On Hotwire.com, the 3-star Chelsea - Madison Square Garden area Hotel is actually the Holiday Inn Express New York City at Madison Square Garden. Right now rooms are $113 a night for the week of April 15. Once you buy the hotel, its identity is revealed.

It's a pretty damn good deal for the middle on Manhattan right next to MSG, Penn Station and all kinds of subway. If you're still making travel plans, that might be something to check out.

I got my hotel by going directly through them and thank goodness I didn't pull the trigger the day I did. I waited a day or two (just had other things on my plate to do, so I was busy) and the hotel had lowered its rates by $50 or so in just a days time. $480 for 4 nights (3 diamond hotel, so not a Ritz Carlton but not Ma & Pa's Motel either) in the center of Manhattan? Yes sir.
