A conversion regarding Paula Deen on Facebook.

I though I would share a conversation I had with a family member (whom I am not close with at all, in fact I don't think I have ever met in person) regarding the Paula Deen debacle.

My cousin:
I am so sick of liberal HYPOCRISY! Paula Deen says "NIGGER" (yep I said and spelled it correctly, not nigga) and has to apologize to the world and everyone of her sponsors drops her. President Clinton lies cheats, and gets a second term (I didn't vote for him). Current government lies, has many scandals & cover-ups and we (not me) praise the him. I am so sick of this PC correct crap. When Black people stop calling themselves Nigger, when movie makers stop using it in movies (except in period pieces), maybe the word would stop being used. It is suppose to be the MOST offensive word in the English language, even more so the the "F" bomb. SO dear Black people STOP USING IT YOURSELF IF YOU DON'T WANT others to use. You see it makes you all sound, act and look like ignorant GANG bangers, thugs, and when I see black people acting like that I have a few choice words of what kind of person I think you are. Yes I assume things like that when you act like that. I am not a racist I am a realist. If I see you acting and talking like a thug and calling yourselves Nigga then I assume you are one. If looks and sounds like a duck it must be a duck. On a side a note ALEC BALDWIN tweets using racist remarks and foul language many times that go public and Capital one Credit Cards keeps him on as a spokesperson. Is it because he is liberal white man who supports Obama. HMM.

My Response:
Okay, first off you need to get your facts correct first. Granted everyone has a right to free speech, but she was not fired only on the use of that word. Please do a little more research of the business behavior of this person. The reason why so many of her business connections have severed contact with her is due to her business practices as a restaurant owner and an employer. Many times she would not pay her black employees salary for private party work they were doing for her, and instead would pay them in alcohol. If they were to complain then they would be warned with being fired. Also, in the court case that arose from this it was said that she wanted to arrange her dream wedding in a "Southern Plantation" style stating: “Well what I would really like is a bunch of little niggers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around,” the lawsuit claims Deen said. “Now that would be a true southern wedding, wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.” She is a public figure in so much that she does commercials for several companies whom no longer want to associate themselves that could possibly damage their bottom line. In regards, to Capital One and Alec Baldwin I would not be suprised if he was dropped from being their sponsor as well sometime soon too.

Her response:
Alec has been their spokesperson for a long time and has been in the media using bad language for a long time too. Yet still around. Why now is this stuff with Paula Dean coming up? Again my point is is still valid. If the black thugs would stop using the word, and if Hollywood would stop using it so would white people. Also the rappers that use it aren't dropped and are roll models to kids. Double standard. And again how long ago did all this happen??

My response to that:
Not its not valid, because you are not black. It doesn't matter how long ago you think it was or what your feelings are on the matter: you are not black. Your family was not put into slavery only a hundred and fifty years ago. You didn't have to fight for your rights to use the same bathroom as white people only 60 years ago. Major leaders in your local and national communities were not assassinated just for asking for basic human rights. And as late as last year, there are still segregated high school dances in the southern states as Alabama and Mississippi. Your insistence that the black people who use the word are "thugs" indicates your thoughts on those who use it, and those thoughts seek to generalize those same people. The Oxford dictionary of the word "thug" is as follows: "a violent person, especially a criminal". I have heard some black people use that word in the context of what you speak of, and many were not criminals nor violent. The use of that word by black people in entertainment and in public are their choices. Some decry its use such as Bill Cosby, but others use it such as Richard Pryor. Both men have their faults, but neither of them were thugs. They are members of a group with which that word was assigned to them and used to denigrate them as the people who were in power over them, thought of them as not being human. But it was not their choice to be called that in the first place. The reason why that word has such power is because of the original association that the word implies. Today, it will mean something different when a white person uses it versus a black person. It just doesn't mean the same thing depending on who uses it. These companies are run by people making individual choices. When it comes to many rappers who run or are supported these companies, who have gang connections or use negative/offensive material, many from whom started in the 1980's and 1990's were speaking from personal experience. There was a time in the innercity, were if you were young and black then you would join a gang just to survive. The same could be said for Italian and Irish youths in between 1900 and 1930's New York City. Are you equally offended by the word "cracker"? Would you seek to begin boycotts of companies for those that had spokespeople that used it? There is no double standard, because to keep or release these entertainers are decisions that each of these companies make as individual companies. Depending on whom would make these decisions in a company, they might make a decision on this issue solely on how it might affect their bottom line or if it is not a publicly traded company a more personal reason might affect their decision. Would you buy the track "Goldigger" by Kanye West solely if it didn't use that word? No, you would not buy it because you don't like it for whatever personal preference. Sometimes this influences a company and sometimes it doesn't. Paula Deen made her choice to use that word, and now it is affecting her negatively. In regards to Alec Baldwin, it is quite simply that this world is not fair and some people will be punished for their wrongdoing and others will not. There is no great conspiracy. s to whether a reduction of the use of the word by Hollywood or by rappers would lower its use among white people: there is no correlation. People who use that word will either use it or they will not. If there is hate in their hearts and minds then that will be the conduct of their mouths and actions. I watch movies and play video games with violent content, but I do not act in the same manner in that media. Most people who use that word were raised in an atmosphere where that word was acceptable

Interestng,

I tend to side with you on this for sre. I was shocked by the stuff paula dean said in her private life because the culture i am from does not have the same deep rooted history. I guess if i were from the south i would get it? Anyway, sounds like pd is getting what she deserves.

Another reply from her:
you are not black either nor did you fight for these rights so why does it matter that I didn't either. No I am not offended by the word cracker, or other, because I don't give a hoot what others say about me, I have been called far worse. As for Richard Pryor - he was a drug user and alcoholic. He made it acceptable to use the word. If a black person was raised it that atmosphere then he probably is a gang banger thug. Bill Cosby made you laugh about it, I haven't heard his crude stuff but I don't recall any "N" word being used, but I am sure it was. Paula Deen was raised in the old South and to her that was used probably by her family, so to her that was acceptable. As far as it being acceptable in a black person's family than if it is acceptable for them to call each other "N" that usually means they probably are. I bet you a black college educated person, well spoken, raised in a good family doesn't use that word and condemns it being used too. SO if it quacks like a duck it is a duck. If a black person calls another black person "N" then that person probably is, and if Paula Deen did call a black person "N" maybe that person actually deserved it. As far as this lawsuit again I say why after 20+ years is it coming up? Why was it not brought up when it happened? Hmm. Let's agree to disagree. You and 90% of your side of the family are very liberal and that won't change, and neither will my conservative, gun totting, pro life, against O care (I think she means Obamacare), side. I don't like the word, nor do I use it, but until their society STOPS using it PERIOD, they should not condemn whites using it. It is not a term of endearment from any race.

My last and final response to her (because I am now bored of the conversation and that she is an idiot):
The truth of the matter is that no one who was ever born ever fit the definition of that word whether you or anyone feels like it does or not. That is not a liberal stance or conservative stance; this is more than truth as some truth is in the eye of the beholder. This is fact.
BTW, I wish 90% of my side of the family was more liberal like me.

There are no uncool black people?

Not a single one?

Not even @imstilltoni when she was an awkward kid, growing boobies and liking boys?

Fuck you, and fuck your racist stereotypes. Your one-eyed filth has no place here in these forums of acceptance and BLT's. Go back to your KKK meetings and flaming crosses, you cracka piece of shit.

I am here to defend the right of uncool black people to be open about their uncoolness, to wear thick glasses, and to have careers as accountants and actuaries.

I'm stereotyping all black people as cool. @imstilltoni was probably never awkward.
