I don't get crumpling either. How can you not end up with mud on your fingers from time to time?

Bidets are not really used anymore. You'll never find a bidet in a new building. My grandparents have one because it was already sitting in the bathroom when they bought their house but they never used it.

Are bidets seen as weird or maybe even dirty in the US/UK?

That's a little extreme. Are you referring to a colonoscopy and if so, what's the big whoop? You got something extra-special going on down there?
