How are you Kiwis holding up?

Just noticed this headline Strong quake strikes near Christchurch, New Zealand - CNN.com.

Doesn't Bebe live near Christchurch? Hope everyone is alright.

I live in Christchurch and so does Bebe, she is out of the city at the moment so she's fine. I am okay as well, most of the buildings in the central city have just collapsed. It's so scary

haha. 'Most' is something of an exaggeration don't ya think. There's been some brickwork, masonry, chimneys and the odd wall etc come down, mainly from old buildings. Apparently there's some power outages (still on here though) and water and sewerage pipe breakages.

As far as current news reports go there have only been a few minor injuries.

Still getting after shocks too. The original shake was awesome - there was no 'what is that?' moment it was fuckn obvious it was a quake and a big one. As far as our house is concerned it looks like we lost a wine glass to the forces of nature

linky link with pics you can scroll through ... quake

Oh no!! A 7.0 is really strong :/

The most I've felt is a 5.something or maybe a 6.something. It comes with the territory of living in Southern California. Not sure if earthquakes are a common thing out there or not but I hope everything is fine with you guys & lots of happy/glittery/shiny thoughts are being sent your way :]

Pretty sure this was Bebe's fault. She had to top that house incident from her childhood.

Glad to hear you guys are doing ok.

I'm pretty sure I had nothing to do with this one! I'm in Tekapo at a hockey tourney this weekend - about 3 hours drive away. We got woken by the shake, so it must have been a big un!

Looks like there is a bit of infrastructural damage but nothing our national earthquake insurance won't cover. The government will pay to fix everything up.

My partner got woken up by the quake and we live like 600kms away! I slept through it as always.

Hope all the Southerners are doing ok, my Mum lives in Timaru so she got quite a decent rumble.

From sounds of the news everyone in the affected areas have reacted really well and are pulling together in typical Kiwi fashion. Amazing there were no deaths reported so far but a lot of damage everywhere, gunna take Christchurch a while to fix everything up.

They should start handing out IPods with KATG shows loaded on to keep up morale.
