This thread reminded me of my trip through Lancaster County about 4 years ago. One of the funniest things I'd seen in a while was a go in his early 20's in his horse-drawn carriage going down the road talking on his cell phone and there was a McDonalds bag on the seat next to him. Heathen. I can only assume he was on the phone with Pizza Hut.

Biblical rules of modesty. Much like orthodox jews, they adhere strictly to the biblical code of decency.

He was probably in rumspringa (sp?). He was not baptized yet, so he could indulge in the modern world. It is there time to run around and be "modern". There are some buggies here, in Lancaster County, that have sound radios and bumper stickers that are owned by young men.

A perfectly sensible practice.

One should decide as an adult if they wish to become a full part of a religion, rather than being baptized, bar-mitzva'ed, circumcized, ect.. at an age where peer and parental influence means more than self-choice.

Would you really rather be cicumcized at 18?
That can't be fun

I know a kid who had it done at 7 and he was in extreme pain for a couple of weeks. I couldn't ever imagine.
